This is a $500 clock radio for people with too much disposable income, right? Am I alone in this? Couldn't I buy a boom-box for $50 and enjoy the 'room-filling sound' of the $450 that is still in my pocket?

My ma was actually thinking of buying one of these, and I was unable to contain my contempt, starting with my clock radio comment from above and ending with "Your deaf in one ear, and losing the other one quickly, it might as well be a HAM radio to you." (Yes, I am the best son ever). Suddenly I came to hate the Wave Radio even more, as those ads seem to now be targeted towards the old and clueless, and I can think of about a million more things my ma would be better off spending her measly income on.

Prologue: She bought one anyway. It sounds like a $50 boom box. I was not pleased.

She did it just to piss you off.

Parents do that when they get older.

:D

Well, my ma is one step away from a tin-foil hat, and has a deep seated fear of radio waves, IR beams, WiFi networks and pretty much anything else that's invisible, wave-based, and/or omnipresent.....the Bose Wave Radio has absolutely ZERO controls on the unit itself (another brilliant design choice), and you have to control it by remote, which is nearly enough to scare my mom from using it...but not enough to overcome the fact that she spent $500 on a clock radio, so she HAS to enjoy it.

So I take some solace in that. Again, I am the awesomest son ever.

Frankly I think the sound is superior, especially given the size. But not so superior that I would want one.

THEY'VE GOTTEN TO YOU! Seriously...'superior sound' is something they repeat in their ads like a dozen times. Superior to what? Another clock radio?

"We compared the Bose's superior, room-filling sound, to other brands such as Emerson, Yorx and Audiovox, and 9/10 old women preferred the life-like sounds of the Bose Wave Radio."

From about the time I was 13 or so on, growing up my parents had one in the kitchen. It was my favorite place to listen to Cubs games, as the detail of the sound in the ball park was much better than anything I could get elsewhere in the house. I mean Bose is in a whole different category than clock radios, but it's the same size. That's worth something, just not $500.

I agree with the Jim McMahon fan.

I got one for a wedding gift and enjoyed the hell out of it. I think there's a much better sound from the Bose than your typical boombox or clock radio. Still pisses me off that I lost it in the divorce.

I don't have experience with the Wave radios, but Bose speakers are generally crap. The sound quality is not very good, but they come in nice looking, small forms factors and they market them well. Kudos to them for figuring out and taking advantage of the fact that the latter two are much more important to the masses then sound quality.

The wave radio systems are definitely much better sound producing units than anythig else. The reason BOSE's prices are so high is that they don't patent anything, they guard their secrets like life threatening weapons of mass destruction.

A friend of ours works for them, its like trying to get into a super high security military installation.

The sound is far better than anything in a comparible size and wattage in standard formats. The full size CD player radio system blows away almost any other stereo I've ever heard.

Yeah, I'm not gona spend 500 bucks on the small one, but if I got one for xmas I'd be one seriously fucking happy camper. =)

My mom bought one when they first came out. Still going strong and was conveniant as hell.

Not sure what it cost her and at the time they didn't come with a CD player.

I woke up to the superior, room-filling smell of FRESH FUCKING TOAST this morning.

Also holds 2 gigs of my favorite mp3s and videos, all for under $100. Suck it, Bose.

 It really sounds nice for a small unit.

Not $500 nice, but impressive nonetheless.

Bose: Better Sound Through Marketing

No Highs, No Lows, Must be Bose

Seriously, their speakers are garbage. When I meet with a customer and they tell me they have purchased or want a Bose system (be it lifestyle Ht, geneeral speakers or other) I thank them and explain they would be happier with another contractor.

All that said, the wave is the one thing of theirs, I wouldnt smash with a hammer if it was given to me.
But the price is ridiculous.

I actually met Anwar at an industry expo several years ago and had a 2 hour conversation with him watching a baseball game in the hotel sports bar in orlando. He is a very like able and genuine guy, but I still hate his products.

The only experience I have with Bose is the 'P.C.' speakers I bought for $100 about 4-5 years ago now. I got them to have good, loud sound coming from my laptop while on the truck, without having to get a 3 or more speaker set. So yes, small and simple with good sound was a big part of it for me. I still use them to this day, either hooked up to my laptop or mostly hooked up directly to my Sirius unit here in the house while working out or working in my office/gym room.

I have always been very happy with them. To me they sound better then the 3 piece speaker set for our PC, though the subwoofer for the PC set obviously gives it more bass. The sound on my Bose are nice and clear, and great hooked up to my laptop and Sirius.

Beyond that I wouldn't argue with people saying their other products aren't that good.
