Anyone use this? It wants me to install a piece of software for this and that is always a big AHHHH! for me. I have a ton of Pepsi Points I can use for some music but I don't want any weirdness installed on top of it.

Helps if you read. You can skip the downloader and the songs are DRM free and sound great!

edit - great bit rate 256 (i rip my own stuff at 192 so this is nice).

My wife says I'm addicted to this service. I haven't had any problems with their downloader. I like it since I use Itunes and it automatically loads the songs into my Itunes library.

I love it. IMO it is the best online music store I've ever used. Their software isn't the best, but the quality and price is excellent.

Agreed. I've been using Amazon instead of iTunes for a couple of months now with no complaints.

Until I saw this thread, I never really bothered to use the store, but seeing the positive reviews here I decided to give it a go, as there are various songs I want only the single, but when I buy from iTunes, I have tried to go only with the iTunes Plus so I could get the 256kbps versions (I rip all my music at 256kbps)

Seems like a decent enough service. I bought Santana's "Into the Night" single and Yael Naim's "New Soul" single. "Into the Night" sounds almost like it's skippy, I can't figure out if it's just that way because it's how he sings it and it was recorded (I never noticed it on the radio version, but maybe I just didn't pick up on it there...). Naim's song sounds like I expected. I only listened to these songs on my laptop speakers, I'm looking forward to giving them a try with my various headphones on my iPod to see how they sound.

It seems to download a bit slower than stuff from iTunes does, but at 256kbps, if I can't find it on iTunes at 256, I'll definitely use the amazon store again. For full albums, I'll probably still go to Best Buy and actually buy the CD and rip it myself, but for that kind of thing I'm still sort of old-school anyway.

Yep. Love it, love it, love it.

And here's the kicker: Amazon's service has completely turned me off file sharing. I hated iTunes ('cuz I don't have an Ipod) and all of the other services I'd ever tried (with the exception of the now defunct All of MP3 site). So if I wanted something non-DRM'd and didn't plan on going shopping any time soon (to get the actual CD), I'd just grab a torrent.

But Amazon came out and offered me DRM-free downloads at $10 an album? I'm there, and happily paying my share.

Needless to say, I fully expect the RIAA to put a spike in this service any day now. :)

I never knew amazon sold mp3's until my dad gave me 2 plastic baggies (sandwhich size) full of pepsi soda tops with the codes in them. I almost told him to just throw them out and then I checked out the site and it looked pretty good. Not everything is available witht he Pepsi Points, but enough is and I may keep buying from here.

This could be the bottomless pit of debt! So many songs, so few dollars.

What happens when space/speed is no longer and issue and the format switches back to WAV? Will we have to buy all over again? Sigh.

Yeah, every day they have an onsale album. U2's new one was only 3.99, other new releases like Depeche Mode was only 2.99 I think. I check every day to see what is on there.

I use Amazon. Sometimes they have artists/groups that you can't get (AC/DC), but I like them.

They had an old Bon Jovi album a couple months ago for $0.99. I always check the deal of the day there.
