Isn't what Chad Johnson is doing right now the exact same thing Kobe did before the basketball season started?

Why are all the experts saying the Bengals are better off without Johnson? Hell, Wilbon is trying to convince the Bengals to cut Johnson now, because he claims that Johnson is already washed-up and should be run out of town.


I fully expect to see Johnson starting in the season opener, just like I fully expected to see Kobe when the NBA season began.

An eight million cap hit and losing the best receiver on the team for what last year was Reggie Nelson and Jonathan Wade? Add to that the increased rookie pool and they'd have to cut a few million to stay under by the time the season starts. Like I said a couple of months ago, the only way they'll trade 85 is if multiple first round picks are involved and they may not even then.

Please, the cap hit is irrelevant. Mike Brown would be happy to give up a chunk of next years cap, cause it will get him closer to that spending minimum. They probably want Chad to pay back a certain amount of bonus....I think if he called today and said he would give back 6m, they would have a deal done shortly.

I think they will get something done, ideally a first this year and a conditional first next year is more than fair for both sides. I don't see how going to Washington and getting teamed with average Jason Campbell will be good for Ocho.

That 8m would all accelerate to this year, but they'd be losing his 4m base, so it's a net of +4 on this years cap.

Johnson for a 1st and 3rd would be an outstanding haul for Cincy, in my opinion. Johnson had a great career w/ the Bengals. If you can have that AND turn him into two high picks, you're doing real well. It is always better to trade a guy a year or two early, rather than a year or two too late.

True, I suppose, although I would suggest that the number of NFL teams with that large of a difference between the #1 and #2 corner are small...not many elite corners out there. You could argue the double team, I suppose, but I think Housh sees his fair share of those, too.

Deep threats are always more dangerous than possesion guys. Housh is great, but he averaged about ten yards per catch last year. CJ had a 15.5 average and 300 more yards on twenty fewer catches. Housh can be replaced if need be, but CJ stretches the defense in a way that no one else on the team can.
