Anyone ever had their iPod freeze up transitioning between the artist selection screen and the playback screen?

Try holding down "Menu" and "OK" at the same time for like 10 seconds?

Yeah. I can't remember but there is a key sequence where you hold in play and menu (maybe?) and it reboots your iPod. I'd search for it on the apple site but that stuff is blocked here at work.

It happened once and never again after the reboot.

I thought you were going to talk about some new kind of Ipod called Ipod Frozen

If this is a hard drive based iPod, it could be an early sign that the drive is dying. I had this happen rarely on mine, then it started happening more and more often until it finally was dead.

It's an 8 GB nano.

It's an 8 GB nano.

I've actually had a surprising amount of trouble with my 8 GB nano. 4 times out of 5, when I hook it into my computer, it doesn't get recognized, and I have to reset it a few times to get it recognized. It's also frozen on me a couple of times. I've only had it since February or so, and it only started in the last monthish, so this surprises me. Meanwhile, my 5th gen 60 GB version is going great, I just like to use the Nano at the gym and while I'm in the car (I use the Nano for the book I'm currently listening to on audio, podcasts, and my workout music and favorite songs).

My 4th gen 20GB is still going strong. Over 3 years old now.

That's the first click-wheel one right? I bought mine about 3 or 4 years ago too, and it's still good.

I have no idea if it is the first click-wheel one.

I'm pretty sure it is. A friend bought one a bit before me, and had four buttons for play, etc. above the wheel that only altered sound or something.

No this one has nothing but the wheel.

I rarely ever use mine, but I have the second Ipod over released, the original 10 GB one. I actually had the first one released which was the 5GB, but when I bought a new one I gave that to my sister and took my dads 10 gb.

last time I checked a couple months ago, it still worked after about 7 years.

My 3rd gen HAD been going strong until my cat decided my keys were a toy and knocked them...and my PDA and iPod off the counter. PDA survived, as it was in a metal case and landed on the ground, but the iPod landed in the water dish. That was when I bought the 5th gen 60 GB, about 2 years ago now (I bought it literally 2 weeks before they introduced the 5.5 gen model which had a better screen, better battery life, and larger capacity for $50 less than I'd paid...talk about torqued).

Anyway. Wish my Nano wasn't acting wonky when I try to hook it in. I even tried to reset it all (reformat), which didn't help.

Whenever I try to sync my nano or my wife's, it gives me an error message saying there are bad sectors or something on it. Then it asks me to fix it, but then says that it can't while it is in use. Kindof annoying, but not a big deal as it just means a few extra clicks to get through the error messages.

I've been thinking about getting one of the hard drive versions so I can have my entire music collection on there. And also so I could include weighted manual playlists that would play my favorite songs more often (by adding the same song repeatedly to the list) than my one-star rated songs, but would play them all if given time. Right now it's a juggling act to make sure that I get to hear everything in my collection from time to time.

Are second generation nanos the ones with bigger screens?
