So they are moving the final table. The link is to cardplayer so it may not be safe for work.

Final Nine Players Will Play Down to a Winner Nov. 9-10 Instead of July 16
The World Series of Poker today officially announced that the final table of the 2008 main event will not compete on July 16 as originally scheduled but, instead, the players will reconvene Nov. 9-10.
The idea behind the change is to create more buzz, and, according to Jeffrey Pollack, the Commissioner of the WSOP, this will allow fans and viewers to ask “who will win” instead of seeing “who won.”
The rest of the 2008 WSOP schedule will remain the same. Further details on this and more are going to be relayed to Card Player via a conference call later today. Check back in at CardPlayer.com later, as more information will be posted.
I think thats dumb as hell and if I was one of the players in a grove I would be pissed

Makes sense from an entertainment point of view.
In terms of the legitmacy of the event, it's clearly a bad move. Forget being in a groove, it's quite possible that players would see their personal financial situation change substantially over the months before the final table, which could easily have an impact on their play.
Hmm... choosing entertainment value over the legitimacy of the game. Looks like poker is a big time sport after all.

So if one of them dies do they get blinded out?

yup.. If one of them can't make it for whatever reason, they will be blinded out.

I'm sure this is a stupid question...but if the goal is to make the TV part relevant (instead of taking place months after the results are known)...why not just air the final table in July when it's supposed to take place? Are the ratings that much better in November than July for a "sporting event" with a somewhat core viewer base?

because they wouldn't be able to show the 15 or so episodes leading up to the final table

The actual people who watch the $1500 RAZZ tournament before the Main Event wouldn't be the same ones who would watch it afterwards?

I should also add...if I have to hear 4 months of bullshit buildup by ESPN there's not a shot in hell I'll actually watch the final table.

Logan, I don't think I'm really understanding you.
Sorry if you know most of this, they break the main event into about 12 or so episodes. If they show the final table before those episodes they would likely lose most of their ratings for the other episodes of the main event

Bounty hunters will love this. Killing won't be necessary, you just need to keep them from getting back to the event.

Oh you're right. I thought you meant all of the other tournaments besides the ME.
