I swear to God these look like the two worst big release comedy movies ever. I am not sure which looks more God awful, but if I had to bet, it's the Love Guru. Who do you guys have in the pilot seat for worst movie?

I'm sorry, but Jack Black just isn't funny....maybe that Tropic Thunder movie will be funny but I think it'll be because of Stiller and Downey Jr. not Black.

I haven't seen any Zohan trailers yet.
The Love Guru looks like it could be renamed 'Austin Powers: The Love Guru'

I like Jack Black when he isn't the lead and isn't having to be Jack Black. (If that makes sense)

Zohan has Emmanuelle Chriqui (Sloan from Entourage).
That's enough for at least a rental.

Love Guru looks old. Zohan made me laugh at a couple of points, and Tropic Thunder shouldn't even be in this discussion RA. ;)

I liked him in High Fidelity, where he wasn't the star although maybe he was playing Jack Black.
Don't Mess With the Zohan looks bad, I've never heard of the other movie.

I thought he was very well cast in King Kong and he basically played himself.

I associate Jack Black being like Nacho Libre or School of Rock. I really didn't like either of the movies.

Zohan doesn't look better/worse than any of Sandler's other movies.

They both look like movies I may rent to see. Not theater movies though. Both look inferior to previous movies of theirs.

I'm looking forward to seeing them both. They both look like they could be pretty funny. Now whether or not I will see them in the movies.... Probably not.
I'm sure Mr. Maple Leaf is going to be first in line to see The Love Guru though.
Saw previews of Love Guru before Ironman. So bad it's cringeworthy. There were some chuckles in the audience at some of the alleged jokes in the preview, but I just chalked that up to the fact that most people are of below average intelligence.

I agree, which is why I give the slight nod to Love Guru. Austin Powers were tolerable and had their own blend of funny, Sandler is more hit than miss these days.

Maybe not those numbers exactly, but I don't think it's absurd to say that mean intelligence is higher than median intelligence.

Well, it depends on how you represent intelligence, but my point is that Crim's statement is not absurd on the face of it.

If I trade the envelope, the chances are decent of getting the 189, so I think its worth a gamble..
That being said, I thought Don't Mess With The Zohan looked like it had more potential of the two. But then again, my sense of humor goes from high brow to low brow in no time flat.

So apparently the implied ;) after statement was non-obvious...
If I tell you Pumpy is in one envelope and Quiksand is in the other envelope and you pick the envelope and open it and out jumps Pumpy, do you trade envelopes or stand pat?
If you stand pat maybe envelopes not the game for you.

I would wager that when the envelopes for best comedic performance are opened at the 2009 Golden Globes, one of the stars of these two movies will have been named amongst the nominees..
Not that that would be deserved, just expected.. And you can't trade that envelope.

You are free to repost the question if you want. I just didn't want to let a flippant comment threadjack us away from an important philosophic question.
And to really throw fire on this question, I'd choose to see Don't Mess With the Zohan before anything that Will Farrell has been in that wasn't called Stranger Than Fiction.

Zohan has potential as a funny take on a Bad Ass Mercenary turned Hair Dresser. Funny thing is the more clips I see for the movie the lower my expectations become. :(
AND, I loved Jack Black in Nacho Libre and liked him in School of Rock. Also, I like him in Shallow Hal. Right there are 3 good movies starring Jack Black.

No, it looks like a trainwreck.
The only possible saving grace is that Mike Myers has a history of throwing inside jokes into his movies that are funny to hockey fans but nobody else. Maybe this whole movie will be like that.

I am guessing The Love Guru has to be better then Zohan.
We went to go see Kung Fu Panda but being 15 minutes late we went ahead and saw Zohan. It was horrible. I am not even as picky as some of the bastards on this board who fancy themselves Siskel and Ebert in one, I usually like the dumb but funny movies. Zohan was so bad I didn't like it. It wasn't crude easy humor, it was that but done in a bad, unfunny way most of the time.
I admit I did laugh at times, but if you try for a laugh every two minutes you will slip some good ones in there. I thought Judd Apatow was my favorite movie writer/producer right now, but this just took him down a notch in my eye.

Since there was no option for "Rather replace my testicles with disco balls than see either of these films" I had to choose that the Adam Sandler film written with a quill dipped in the diarrhea from a yeti. When comparing two wastes of film such as these, watch the one that's going to have some attractive women.

I actually rather enjoyed the Tropic Thunder trailer. I didn't know anything about it (I'm not a big movie-goer on my salary). I doubt I'll go see it, but it looks DVD-worthy at this point.

There was a trailer before Zohan for the Will Smith movie. It was a pretty good trailer and made the movie much better looking the what I had seen before.
Zohan is awful though, if you want to see a train wreck go see it.

No, no, no...
I've seen too many trailers for Adam Sandler movies that made me think, "might not be half bad," but then when I actually go to see them, I sit there thinking..."how much did I spend for this thing, again?"
There's a lot of funny stuff in Mike Myers movies....if you're in fifth grade.

I was thinking of this thread when the trailer for the Guru came on TV. There is zero chance of a movie theater viewing of either of these garbage films for myself, but I was seated next to a bad movie junkie.
After asking which movie looked better (or worse, depending on your POV) the answer was that The Love Guru looked shittier, so thats how I voted.

Shame I thought the Zohan trailers made it look quite 'fun' - I'll probably wait until its on rental before trying it now, but I'll definitely see Hancock in the movies not least because I generally rate Will Smiths movies ...
PS - Although that being said I've a busy movie viewing time coming up with the animated movies (Kung Fu Panda and that little robot chappy movie) which my kids will insist on seeing ..... ok so I'm looking forward to them also ;)

Perhaps I just wasn't in the mood for that type of movie last night, but that would be a first I would think. My wife laughed more then I did and I think was OK with the movie, taking it for what it is a dumb comedy. On the other hand it was a crowd with a ton of teenagers and they weren't laughing much either.
In fact some of my laughs were things dumb, living in their own world teens wouldn't get, mainly some of the use of hebrew and a running gag with humus. I had one somewhat hard laugh the whole movie. Another thing, this movie had the worst use of the cameo role several times over.
I do look forward to Kung Fu Panda and Wall-E as well, so you are not alone there.
