What sort of info is generated from a background check? Is employment history part of that and how long does it take for that info to make it to the system?

My guess is that it depends on what you are applying for. Criminal history, Financial history, driving record, military status, places you lived, etc can all be checked. Maybe even medical history.

Its a sales job. The only thing I am worried about is job history. I recently took another job (started 2 weeks ago, yet to be paid) due to employment status, and am wondering if that has hit the books yet. That is the only potential fly in the ointment, I think the guy that has interviewed me won't have a problem with it, I worry about their HR department.

Medical history you'd probably have to sign a waiver. In addition to what gottimd listed, they'll probably do a credit check.

Maybe I am being naive, but exactly what kind of background check are you talking about. Besides a common credit check, and maybe a criminal records check with your permission, I do not think most ordinary business can check your employment history with the IRS.
I think most of your government records are not accessible to the general public.

I've never heard about background checks including some sort of scan for jobs.
It's generally criminal record, local police check, and a credit check.

Cool. Barring anything unforeseen coming up, I'll have a job I actually want come tonight.

What's the job? Is it hitman? If so, I've got a couple of "problems" that need "solved".

This thread will now pop up in future background checks.
