View Full Version : Double-cover best receiver?

I'm not sure if this question has been asked so I'll ask it out of curiosity.

In the gameplan screen, you have the option of double covering "the best WR".

Does that option double the in-game ratings best receiver or the best stats receiver? There are situations where the 53/53 WR outperforms the 65/65 receiver to warrant the question to be asked. I just don't recall it being asked before.

I've always assumed it's the best WR based on your scouts impression. But as the scenario above points out, that could lead to unfortunate results for your defense, even though you had the right intentions.

As an aside, it would be nice in the future for the gameplan to allow us to identify which receiver in the upcoming game we would like to double cover, but obviously that doesn't do much good right now.

It would also be nice if you set your game plan to double team any WR in almost every possible down throughout the entire game (some value in the top WR slot (like 70, because that WR is leading the league in receiving yardage) and 100 in the bottom WR slot) that the game log doesn't come back with a grand total of 0 occurances of double teaming. *sigh*

why not double team... by NAME.

I see only problem with names, you never know in advance which WRs will and which won't play. But I do envision part of your thinking:

[double team priority screen]
order - receiver - percentage
premier [WR Jerry Rice |V] [90]%
second [WR Wes Welker |V] [25]%
third [TE Tony Gonzalez |V] [70]%
fourth [WR Peter Warrick |V] [0]%
fifth [-none-------- |V] [X]%
sixth [-none-------- |V] [X]%

Heck, with enough slots, you could set the desired percentages of each WR/TE/RB/FB for all six pass/run situations. You could replace the names with some sort of system that gives you the ability to make the first WR based on highest overall rating, the second on highest route running (of those remaining), the third on highest big play (of those remaining), etc.

Edit: In the example above, I was using the assumption of that the game first rolls for Rice (DTed 90% of time), if it rolls the 10% remaining, it then rolls for Welker (25% of 10% (DTed 2.5% of time)) then for Gonzalez (70% of 75% or 10% (DTed 5.25% of time)), then for Warrick (0% of 30% of 75% of 10% (never ever DTed!)).

This was answered...but it apparently is still not widely known.

Thank you.

I *think* I remember reading that (when jkat was all the rage). Of course, reading it now, my head almost exploded, so I may have faded out somewhere along the line the first time.

However, this from Solecismic in the thread seems fairly definitive.

The basis of determining "top" receiver is the perceived route-running rating (by your scout) of the opposing receivers. That information should probably be in the help file.

Yikes!

Maybe I should acquire a route running WR3, so my star WR1 or WR2 can get 1-to-1 action most of the time.
