How would the following hypothetical 3-way tie for 1st have been broken in the Big 8?
Colorado - 6-1, loss to Nebraska
Nebraska - 6-1, loss to Oklahoma
Oklahoma - 6-1, loss to Colorado

Don't know for sure, but I believe the protocol would be that they are officially all co- (or tri-) champions. The Orange Bowl bid would go to the team with the longest time elapsed since their last trip to the Orange Bowl.

Yep, my team is Oklahoma in the BB-BBCF, and we're claiming the conference championship for historical purposes, but it looks like we're hosed since we went to the Orange Bowl the two previous seasons.

A three-sided coin? Personally, I would have just rolled a die. :D
