View Full Version : Gaming Boredom - Suggestions

So I seem to be in a general rut, gaming - absolutely nothing seems to entertain me anymore, to the point where I haven't touched my 360 in about 6 months (I still haven't finished Mass Effect, or really gotten anywhere on it :D ) or played a non-WWSM game on the PC in the same period (I think Space Rangers 2 was fun, but that got boring - Civ 4 doesn't hold any appeal any longer). I'm an awful shooter player (like historically bad - 4 year old crack babies could kick my ass) so the Halo's of the world never did much for me, and I'm now wondering if I can get seduced by GTA enough to care - fundamentally, I guess, what is the gameplay like?

Suggestions/advice for PC/360 would be great - just looking for something fun, you know? My favorite games are probably the KOTOR series, WWSM, EV NOVA, Older OOTP's, and the one shooter I could play gleefully - Call of Duty 2 (I'd pick up 4, but I've heard, here in fact, that the single player is brutally short). I'm not sure if there's a magic bullet out there, but I'd like to give it a shot. Even looked at picking up older games like Sim City 4 or Medevial Total War. I definitely lean more towards strategy more than action, but not sure.

If you liked the KOTOR games, I'd recommend you go back and give Mass Effect a bit more time for the story to grab you. I was the same way. I loved the KOTOR games and got Mass Effect. Unfortunately, the story didn't grab me right away and I ended up putting around 6 hours or so into it before shelving it for a while. A few months later I picked it back up for some reason and got to a point where I started to love the story. I put 23 hours into it over the course of a weekend and was not disappointed. At this point, I'd rank it as my favorite game of the past couple of years - and the only game in recent memory that I've gone back for a second play through.

Only game I'm really playing right now is World of Warcraft.

GTA4 is a fun diversion for the 360. Also the latest FIFA game is fun as well.

On the PC, maybe try the new Conan game. It's still having some launch issues (I haven't played enough to really notice) but it's a nice change of pace to WoW (which gets a lot of my other time). The combat system in Conan is fun and beats the generic MMORPG combat that most games have.

Or get a Wii and give that a try. It can be a blast.

I'm in the same boat. I'm getting over my Warcraft addiction (haven't played in over a month, woo hoo), and lately nothing is really grabbing my interest. Some of my unplayed games that I currently own:

GTA IV
Metroid for the Wii
Super Mario Galaxy (probably about 50-60% through this one)
Oblivion

They just aren't keeping my attention. I've gone pretty crazy over the NES and SNES Emulators lately (River City Ransom + Tecmo Super Bowl ftw), but I'm even running out of games there to play. Would love some suggestions. I have an XBox 360, Wii, PS2 and a fairly antiquated PC (less than 1 Gig of RAM, geesh).

Dola - tried to find Conan today, and it was sold out at four different stores in my area. I don't want to get into another MMORPG, but I wanted to check out some of the classes that sounded interesting and the combat system.

I get diverted every once in a while from WoW, but nothing can keep me away from it for more than 3 or 4 days. I played GTAIV for 4 days and was ready to get back to playing WoW heavily.

There's just something about it.

I just started playing Titan Quest with the Immortal Throne expansion....$19 at Gamestop. If you are into Diablo style RPG's, give this one a shot.

Just Cause for the 360. Can't wait for Just Cause 2 to come out.

It's like the GTA stuff, only you get to play the GOOD guy. And you get to fly jets and helicopters and drive boats. And it's on a jungle island instead of stuck in a city.
