TOKYO, Japan (AP) -- A homeless woman who sneaked into a man's house and lived undetected in his closet for a year was arrested in Japan after he became suspicious when food mysteriously began disappearing.

Police found the 58-year-old woman Thursday hiding in the top compartment of the man's closet and arrested her for trespassing, police spokesman Hiroki Itakura from southern Kasuya town said Friday.

The resident of the home installed security cameras that transmitted images to his mobile phone after becoming puzzled by food disappearing from his kitchen over the past several months.

One of the cameras captured someone moving inside his home Thursday after he had left, and he called police believing it was a burglar. However, when they arrived they found the door locked and all windows closed.

"We searched the house ... checking everywhere someone could possibly hide," Itakura said. "When we slid open the shelf closet, there she was, nervously curled up on her side."

The woman told police she had no place to live and first sneaked into the man's house about a year ago when he left it unlocked.

The closet is part of a Japanese-style room, one of several rooms in his one-story house where the man lived alone -- or so he had thought.

Police were investigating how she managed to go in and out of the house unnoticed, as well as details of her life inside the closet, and if she had taken anything else besides food.

She had moved a mattress into the small closet space and apparently even took showers, Itakura said, calling the woman "neat and clean."

I might understand if this had been going on for a week or so but the woman was living in the guy's house for an entire year. How does he not notice her? How does he never go in the closet for an entire year?

Technically he didn't live IN the closet...he lived in a secret lair that was only accessible THROUGH the closet...2 totally different things.

Between this thread and the one with the scary picture of Amy Winehouse I'm really, really afraid of what I may find in the crawl space some day...

I'm not sure I trust the homeless woman to know how many days have passed. I'm curious how long the guy has found food to be missing for.

This would be an interesting test, see who could successfully rub one out while being forced to look at that picture. No closing your eyes, no looking away, you gotta make continuous eye contact with the creature until completion. I'm guessing 99% of mankind would fail, and the other 1% is Skeletor.

I do not understand the question.

Note that I'm not saying I want to try it - I'd be a little worried about the long-term consequences. I'm just saying I think I could if for some reason I had to.

I do not understand the question.

I understand it is highly irregular but surely he must keep something in the closet. Old hockey fight tapes? Porn collection? Samurai swords? I find it hard to believe he never even opened the door for more than a year.

Was there ever an explanation for why Skeletor clearly has well-defined musculature? Or is this kinda like the Donald Duck wears no pants, but he wraps his bottom half in a towel after taking a shower paradox?

I don't think Skelator is necessarily a Skelaton. I think he just has a Skelaton face with a normal body. That alone warrants the name Skelator if you ask me.

The Donald Duck thing...yeah I dunno man. Maybe Bucc knows?

If that's the case, maybe he should have been named Skullator...
