I expect to be going to Tanzania for a year starting in September '08. The town that we will predominantly be in does not have many options as far as books and magazines so I am looking for DVD archives of some magazines that I can take with me.

I will be purchasing the New Yorker archive, http://www.thenewyorkerstore.com/books_completenewyorker_middle.asp?mscssid=E548BGX338MT9K1702RMHG65FQ7156UB&sitetype=1&affiliate=ny-storetop but I am looking for other options also.

If anyone has information on DVD archives it would be greatly appreciated. I am most interested in literary and photography magazines.

Along those same lines, I would also be interested in DVD versions of instruction books for photography or video software.

Thanks.

Several years ago National Geographic made their entire archive available via CD-ROM; it's possible that they later released it on a DVD set.

If you will have any type of braodband Internet access, several magazines under the Time/Sports Illustrated brand have entire archives online. The sports photography in SI is particularly noteworthy for the sheer number of iconic work that's entered the public.

One of my fondest wishes is for a complete archive of Playboy magazine, which would demonstrate both literary and photographic merit.

If you have internet access while you are there then you could try some digital magazines. Alternatively you could stock up on some before you go.

I'd be remiss not to mention one of my favorites though it isn't exactly literary or photographic.
