I don't have a good feel for how much content we had regarding soccer sims in the OT section. I know that the "Alright Boyz..." type threads for FM are among the most-replied-to in FOFC history, but to be honest, I didn't pay a lot of attention to other posts. My suspicion was that getting out of OT would increase the amount of soccer sim posts, and make it easier to find content. Has it helped, or hurt? (Yes, I'm asking this because I'm exploring the viability of doing the same thing for all sports...)

I would say the results are so-so. At first it was hot because it was new. I think the slow down right now is the fact that it is that time of the year where the countdown to the new FM/WSM is on, and playing of the game is down a touch. I also think that not everyone has made this the default location for Soccer sim stuff as I still see the "Alright boyz" thread get bumped from time to time.

Personally I go with the former and not the later. I just am not playing WSM right now and so not much to say about it.

Overall I like it though.

It's been fantastic in so far as not everything gets crammed into the single thread anymore. The lull corresponds with a game-playing lull I do believe, and it will be back in full swing when FM09 comes out.

Thanks for the forum DJ.

Ever since the soccer stuff was separated out from the primary discussion forum, I've only checked it a handful of times. I still wish WWSM stuff was merged back in with discussions of big spiders, ChargeGuard, and manbabies.

Nice, I think the move up the main menu helps this and the new baseball forum. I don't mind this move at all.

I think when FM Live and FM 09 come out this will pick up action again.

kudos and a half.

I feel like it's slow because, as stated above, FM wont' be out for a couple of months.

That makes no sense to me. It's an annual game that hardly changes anymore, yet people are waiting for FM 09 at this point? 8.02 has only been out for 3.5 months.

I'm much more inclined to think that FM's heyday at this forum is gone and past. Guys just aren't talking about it like they did 1-2 years ago. Maybe FM Live will liven things up, but I don't think FM 09 will change the deadness of this forum.

we could consider the CM heyday and its death. then the CM4 heyday and then its death. then the following CM version's heyday and its subsequent death. then FM2006's heyday and its death. and FM2007's heyday and its death. that's a metric assload of heydays and deaths.

in spite of the fact that some of us buy every other version (i do) and play the hell out of it (my previous games went 25-30 years each), there are others who are less obsessive who find additional interesting game (wacky that) and play those once they have played the hell out of CM/FM. then get back into interest again once a new version threatens to come out and marky marc and his funky bunch tantalise us with new features that make us drool, wipe the drool, slobber, clean the slobber, sprout the kind of wood generally reserved for the likes of gisele bundschen, jennifer garner and keeley hazell, profess (purely platonic and entirely hetero-sexual) man-love for marc vaughan and scream, "WHATCHU TALKIN' 'BOUT WILLIS!" all in the initial 4 posts. then we beg, plead and cry for frogger, EF27, QS and chief to do their dynasties.

similar shit happens with OOTP and FOF. and we have not called for their deaths yet. or have we?

OOTP just plain sucks and guys don't seem to realize that until a couple of months after release. FOF is doing fine mainly because of multiplayer.

All I'm trying to say is that the in-depth FM discussions seems to have died down. Not just recently, but since 2008 was released. I would throw out the possibility that, for the most part, guys that are going to play FM (from FOFC) are already playing FM and have gotten a grip on the game by now and just aren't asking as many questions.

And I have zero information about FM Live and when that will be released (as I'm not interested in it at all), but I really think that would spark things a bunch.

I'm happy as it has brought some traffic back to the sagging Hattrick forum :)

I thought it was going to be more of a soccer forum than a text-based forum really.

i'd love for this to be more of a soccer-news forum too. like the cristiano ronaldo thread and the various soccer-threads in GD - i'd love for them to be moved over here. I spent a while directing them all over here trying to drive the traffic here. I think maybe it needs a mod or a pseudo-mod with the ability to just move the threads to here?

Can such a limited set of powers be had? I'd volunteer to assume them if so.

I'd also like to see (and maybe I will try to get going this weekend), the "FOFCization" of a bunch of classic type threads from the SI board (a tactical discussion thread, a "post your starting 11" thread, a "celebrate your accomplishments" type thread, etc)

I think a forum dedicated to soccer and soccer games would be nice.

I think it is silly to think that FM 09, won't have a huge impact on this forum.

it would be an epic mistake to have separate forums for each sport. epic. i can not stand at all the tendency of message boards to dedicate a forum to the most niche subject, just for the sake of looking like there's a ton of content. already it's starting to look like this place is getting cluttered, and that's not even counting all the various sub-forums.

leave it as-is, or even scale it down a bit. i for one would make one big forum entitled "sports text-sims", to be used for all sports not-FOF related. no need to have a special place to talk about Baseball sims and another special place to talk about soccer sims (which, you basically mean "FM", as there isn't any other soccer sims that are competitive enough to be worth discussing). don't be so gung-ho to have a special place to post about every possible topic. just seems like you're scrambling mighty hard for content, trying to generate interest and talk in all this other stuff, going forum-crazy and designating an entire forum for one game (ie., FM) when most of the time only one thread is needed/required for discussion. if topics get too big that it's difficult to follow a discussion someone inevitably will start a new thread to refocus things. leave it at that. anything more will result in a lot of dead forums (like the PC Games forum that was posted in once a month) and 10 post threads.

I think the problem is that this became a soccer-text sim forum. And even when it was a soccer forum, we didn't really pay attention to that, continuing to post mainstream soccer threads in OT. We should have made this forum our own when we had the chance.

Have Dog change it back to the Soccer Forum then, and move the soccer threads over here.

I agree with this. I don't like having to keep switching tabs between football/soccer/baseball/werewolf/porn/etc.
