With the NFL opting out of the CBA, and the big-market owners fighting with the smaller-market teams over revenue-sharing; the NHL's new revenue-sharing and salary cap system showing some cracks, does it work?
Is a single-entity structure (think of the France family running NASCAR) the best system? All revenues would belong to the ownership.

The Florida Marlins think it works: they make a profit off of it with their payroll less than their revenue sharing cut...

Well, it's made the NFL the most successful sports league on the planet...at least as far as owners' bottom lines. Of course, that hasn't stopped most of those owners from looking for loop holes in the system to gain a competitive edge (i.e. tapping revenue streams that are not included as part of the revenues shared league-wide).

I agree. Of course, part of the problem is the ability of the big market teams to drive up revenues where small market teams can't (as well as to have that ability to tap the bigger dollars available in a wealthier, business-friendly market).
