In my office right now at 8:58AM EST. The air conditioning is broke in the building, and it is suppose to get up to 92 degrees outside today. I refuse to take a vacation day and just go home. So I might sit here in my boxers.
All pity is welcomed.

Nice plan. Your stance might well convince your co-workers to donate some of their vacation time to you, giving you a day off without you having to use any of your vacation time.

I don't have the same problem...but will verify it's pretty nasty in Pittsburgh today [insert nasty Pittsburgh joke here].
From the time I left home, to the time I jumped off the trolley, about 40 mins, it felt like the temp rose about 10 degrees and humidity was up 523476234897234978 %

We are having major construction in our office and it is kicking up a huge amount of dust and other unhealthy particles. To top it off, we had a piece of construction material fall on a kid, yesterday. You think that would have convinced the bosses that we should close until the construction is done, but apparently not...
So, I feel your pain.

It's going to be hot as hell here for the next few days. Almost as hot as a typical day in Tallahassee - but not quite. And we've got the benefit of 20 MPH winds.

I would work from home but that isn't allowed because of the work we do for the government. I don't have a secure internet line.

I am an engineer and work with about 400 engineers. Just in case you don't know, they are the cheapest people in the world so they definitely wouldn't be giving me any of their vacation.

I think there is a law that states something about workplace temperature. I think it might be +85 and no room less that you can retreat to, that you have to be sent home. I'm not sure though.

It's so cool in my office that it's 82 outside, yet I just drank a cup of tea and it didn't bother me at all.
Just thought I'd share. http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

My thermostat is usually set around 82 or 83, with times at 85. I could handle 87 I think.

I don't know what the law is like in America - but in England your employer has to give you a reasonable working environment (which that doesn't sound particularly like ;) ) .... if they are unable to provide it then thats their problem not yours (ie. you should get the day off without it being taken as holiday).
At the very least can't you find a laptop and work in a local restaurant or something?

OK, people, I have to go complete a three-hour tour as part of my job training. Yes, I said a three-hour tour. Apparently, I'm working at Gilligan's Island now. If Bob Denver shows up, I'm gonna kick his scrawny motherfucking ass.

Last week when I got a haircut, they were playing a country station at the place and apparently, Hootie (Rucker, not the band) has gone completely country. They played his new single and, uh ... um...it was a few minutes long.

The heat index here says it feels mid nineties.
Tomorrows high is 94 degrees.
I work nights and in the back of the building its generally considered the coldest part. One of the managers came back there yesterday and commented on how nice it felt. The reading on the thermostat said 83.
Yikes.

Was in the 80s today here, but freakish weather.
Humidity a bitch and it kept alternating between gorgeous sunshine and summer thunderstorms. Even had two tornado watches, one of which turned into a warning as a twister rolled through our section of the state.
Still, I'm damn glad to have warm weather back.
