I know there are some people out there that just flat out don't get his humor, but I feel like he has been in enough movies that weren't Billy Madisonesque for most to have liked at least one of them.

*edit* sorry for the delay in the poll...so many damn movies.

I like a lot of Adam Sandler movies, but they seem to have gotten a lot worse as the years have gone by. Little Nicky was the first major bump in the road, but "I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry" well and truly signalled that his best years were well behind him.

The only ones I've seen are the "non-Adam Sandler" types...Big Daddy, Click, 50 First Dates, and The Wedding Singer. Big Daddy is my favorite, closely followed by Wedding Singer. Click and 50 First Dates were both "just ok", wouldn't rush to watch them again but if there is nothing else on, I'll watch...

I've always had a special place in my heart for anything hawai'ian, which I think is half the reason 50 first dates is #1 in my book.

I put Billy Madison as my favorite, though I haven't seen most of his movies because I think he's a horrible actor and not particularly funny. As a matter of fact, Billy Madison is my favorite Sandler movie because of this line, "Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul," which oddly enough embodies how I feel about most Adam Sandler movies.

Though I suppose that Adam Sandler movies should give all the idiots out there a modicum of hope to "make it big." Just imagine, some absolute idiot pitched the idea of [fill in the name of a random Sandler movie here] to some movie exec who thought it was a good idea and paid them a lot of money for the rights. Actually, I seem to remember there being a South Park episode that kind of brought that up..

I really liked the 4 below
1 wedding singer
2 billy madison
3 the waterboy
4 happy gilmore

Big daddy I liked
50 first dates I liked a little
chuck & larry was ok because kevin james cracks me up. He reminds me of my brother and when my 80 something year old grandma said that also, everytime I see kevin james it just make laugh.

Click was surprisingly good IMO, it mixed some funny moments with a serious message.

the wife and i happened to watch it for free on cable, one of those "there's nothing else on cable right now, and this one is just starting...".

i was not prepared for how sad a story that movie was going to be. we were both in tears. very sad message. it was more of a 40 % comedy/60% drama than it was a 80% comedy mixed in with 20% serious plot type of movie.

my 3 favorite sandler movies are 1. Wedding Singer, 2. Click and 3. 50 First Dates.

those 3 weren't in order, i shoudl've mentioned that. i'm not that much of a Sandler fan to waste the 2 or 3 minutes arranging them in order of preference.

i would give Wedding Singer bonus points for its amazing soundtrack. i remember going to the beach and playing the Wedding Singer cassette tape. i like 50 First Dates as much as Wedding Singer, so if anything i would put Click at #3 and flip flop the top 2 based on how i was feeling that day.

Billy Madison is a classic Sandler movie, but i don't think it was his best. his humor/brand of comedy isn't like that anymore, that's like saying the only thing Shaq can do is dunk. yeah, that was true in '93, by 2003 he was all over the place. Madison is a stupid silly movie. the only funny part to me was when the debate moderator said that whole "...and may God have mercy on your soul" part.

and i agree, Little Nicky was the beginning of the Sandler not having the midas touch. that movie was absolutely horrible. Spanglish was meh.

To me The Waterboy is the quintessential Sandler movie.
Im not sure how you can like Sandler and not love The Waterboy.....

Its head and shoulders above the rest IMHO, the only one close for me is happy gilmore.

*Even though the movie took an obligatory stab at Clemson, thanks to their agreement with USC for free use of Williams Brice for much of the game field footage.

Dude....you are right on the money. I saw this on a date with this Indian girl (Didn't work out...she was hot but had bad B.O....it could have been me, but why cast myself in a negative light?)..and it was not a comedy really at all. Maybe those bits with the neighbor kid were a little bit funny, but it was deff more sad than anything else.

dola, what a bunch of wet blankets we have in the crowd.

I voted Punch Drunk Love, just because I knew it wouldn't get much love. I am a total fucking mark for Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, and The Wedding Singer. Fantastic movies. The first two came out when I was an adolescent, so maybe I harbor some nostalgia, but fuck it. I still think they're funny.

I'd probably go with Happy Gilmore for the best of his comedies.

Zohan has a $40m opening, second for the weekend behind Kung-Fu Panda which pulled $60m. Interesting note or two on Panda, which had 71% of it's business come from age 17-and-over and posted the best ever non-sequel opening for any Dreamworks animated feature.

For Sandler it was more of the same really, as the movie was "on par with other comedies from Sandler, whose top four past openings range from "The Longest Yard" at $47.6 million to "Click" at $40 million"

The inclusion of 9/11. Total exploitation - the premise didn't remotely call for it.

Why? Do you not believe there were family members like this from 9/11 who lost their entire family on that day? I liked the way they did not overdue the 9/11 angle myself.

So, the 9/11 part of the movie worked for me.

BTW, Grandma's Boy is a Happy Madison Production.

I think the people who didn't pick Reign over Me never saw it. It was a terrific movie that showed that Adam Sandler is more than just a comedic actor.

He's far better in Punch Drunk. I think Reign over Me was the knee-jerk Hollywood reaction piece (though far less explotative than Greenglasses' United 93 which is the equivalent of a snuff film).

Reign over Me is that "road to hell paved with good intentions", that we all hurt, or are damaged and some of us are worse off than others. I think that it was how do we help those people we care about but who have lost so much (because of 9/11).

The 25th Hour is even more in your face about 9/11 with Ed Norton looking out at ground zero.

Back to Sandler, having seen "Don't Mess with the Zohan", it was mildly amusing, but the problem with this movie (and "I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry" which was horrific - and seen on cable) is that it's comedy with a "message". In "Chuck and Larry" it was regular guys seeing how the other half have it so hard...but really it was horrific to watch in its over stereotyping, and furthermore, the whole these guys were digging and just couldn't get out of, save for Dan Aykroyd yanking the plug at the end and thus ending the movie for us.

"Don't Mess with the Zohan" goes off on the tangent that people aren't really different. And that America is the land where everything is equal, thus Zohan can be who he wants to be, date a Palestinian woman even though he's A) an Israeli solider the equivalent of Rambo -without all the killing though- I don't think he killed one person on his one mission and B) he was not only doing the hair of his clients at his future girlfriend's salon but doing them as well...yeah, that's perfect date material...

Ultimately, the most evil person is the white man who heads a Wal-Mart like entity (with heavily stereotyped redneck hillbillies helmed by Dave Matthews as goons)...and everyone should want to rally against that.

Anything generally involving Sandler should be taken for what it is, mindless entertainment.

I have fond memories of Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison from when I was younger, but with Adam Sandler's later work just as Big Daddy, Mr. Deeds, The Longest Yard, and Don't Mess With The Zohan, I wonder if those were actually any good as CT and Jivin talked about reconsidering the original StarWars movies after the prequels.

Happy Gilmore is the funniest Sandler movie, followed by Billy Madison. Waterboy sucks. I enjoyed Click and Punch Drunk Love, but ultimately I would never list Adam Sandler as one of my favorite actors.
