View Full Version : I need your votes! UPDATE! CODE CRACKED! CHECK PAGE 3!

Hey everybody.

I did a stupid thing.

I entered a sports talk radio promotion here in L.A. back in May, where I sent in a two-minute audition in order to try and win a chance to co-host a radio show on KLAC AM. And I kept winning. And winning. And out of the 300+ entrants that originally had entered the contest, I am now in the top 8!

Being a hockey guy, my audition was about how the mainstream media never covers hockey, especially in southern California. It was an original take that got me to the final bracket of 64. But when I made the final bracket, the station allowed us to re-do our takes and freshen them up. And since KLAC is the Lakers flagship, I riffed on the Lakers playing the Celtics. (When in Rome, right?) That got me to where I am today.

But now, I find myself down in a big, bad way. I am way down in the fan vote. They had to change the rules after last year, where all emails sent in have to be verified. Which has cut down on the amount of cheaters. But not all. There always seems to be people who try to find the loophole in any contest like this.

So now, after bugging everyone in my address book, I'm resorting to pimping myself out to every message board I've ever stepped foot in and panhandle for votes. I do draw the line at dressing like Little Bo Peep, however. (The costume's still not repaired from last round...)

Please go here and vote for Matt Murray (http://www.am570radio.com/pages/abracket.html?feed=272545&article=3690812). You can vote more than once, but you'll have to wipe your cookies and use a different email. A little tedious, but I would appreciate it.

And if you're a Celtics fan, I don't know what to tell you. Listen to both entries and vote for the best one, I guess. Just to let you know, my opponent did a rap about Kwame Brown. Kwame. Brown.

Any idea how many votes that is that you are down?

Right now, I'm down. 11% to his 88%. But this is the thing, the voting is actually two-part. One half goes to the fans, the other is a 10-person panel vote from the radio station. So, if I can keep it close, I could lose the fan vote but win overall.

It's happened twice this competition already, when I was targeted by people in other brackets in the contest who tried to eliminate me, to ease their road to the final four.

This round ends Friday at midnight. I appreciate any votes I can garner, believe me.

I don't know. In the time that it took me to vote and verify my vote (like 20 to 30 seconds), his vote percentage went from 12.96% to 13.26%. So there may not be a ton of people voting.

I don't know, it was like 11.8% when I voted, so he could actually make a comeback to 30-40% if we turn out and vote. I think the percentages are marking relatively small numbers right now.

Either way, good luck.

Math wizards, figure that out.

I'm no math wizard, and possibly suffered a mild concussion around 7pm tonight, but I think that means 50 votes == 1 point, at least as it stands at that very moment. However, as the total number of votes increases, your point per vote will decrease, and this is where my failed college calculus, erm, fails me.

However, as the total number of votes increases, your point per vote will decrease, and this is where my failed college calculus, erm, fails me.

If 50 votes is equal to one percentage point, that means that roughly 5000 votes have been cast. I say roughly because there's probably rounding going on somewhere.

It would take an additional 100 votes cast to move one percent from 50 ballots to 51 votes.

If he had 20% of the vote with 5000 votes cast (yes, I know it was less than that the last time somebody posted a total), that's going to be 1000 votes.

He'd need 71% of the next 100 ballots to reach 21% of the vote. If he continued to get 71% of the vote between 5k and 10k votes cast, he'd have just about 45% of the overall vote. 80% of those ballots makes it a dead-even tie.

I have no idea how to calculate the effect of each individual vote as a progressive percentage of the total, but, uh, the math looks vaguely Clintonian for Mateo here.

As in, barring a massive ballot-box-stuffing campaign that goes unopposed...this is probably where we congratulate you and say "get 'em next time."

Money is a huge hockey fan. I found out he has these in his office:

They came in Happy Meals up in Canada, if you can believe it.

Padres fans, Padres fans, PADRES FANS, IT'S YOUR PHONE LINE. DO YOU AGREE WITH ME? DON'T BLOW THIS THING UP! I want NO excuses, NO explanations, I want a solution to the Padres problems, and to me, this is the best one. And I want phone calls, DAMMIT I WANT PADRES FANS on the phones!!!

:D

I got this word for word from his Best 15 Minutes In Radio podcast.

BTW, how often are they uploaded? I noticed the most recent one was on 1/15.

It's about taking dumbass lines said in the media and stringing them together

Gimme back my son!

lol yeah, that was pretty funny. Is he still playing the Tanya Harding phone call to 9-11? That was pretty hysterical too.

Oh yeah, one thing that really pissed me off about Rome, was that he HATED nascar.. with a passion, and know he's all lovey dovey with the drivers.

What a hypocrite.

Someone posted this in another message board, but I can't make heads or tails of it.

My only concern is if a voting bot was used, if the vote rose too quickly, it might raises suspicion.

O.K., my network is in full effect. Check this out... Some one has seemingly figured out the tactic!

If anyone can vote using the following addresses I will follow through and verify the vote.

[email protected] ([email protected])
[email protected] ([email protected])
[email protected] ([email protected])
[email protected] ([email protected])
[email protected] ([email protected])
[email protected] ([email protected])
[email protected] ([email protected])
[email protected] ([email protected])

etc etc just change the number after mateo

So, I ask if there's anyone who still wants to stick it to this clown and beat him at his own game, let's start here.

[email protected] ([email protected])
[email protected] ([email protected])
[email protected] ([email protected])

yada yada yada

This is enough ahead of the first crew starting. I know this is asking a lot for a noob like me. But as Jesse the Body Ventura once said:

"Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat."

Meh. If I lose, I don't get the $1000 anyway. At least now I'm loading up on the addresses and we're gonna flood the vote at the last minute like a tidal wave.

By the way, let people know which set of 10 you are working on. The website will let you know if you are duplicating.

How lame do you feel that you are resorting to cheating to win a sportsradio contest?

Time to kill yourself!

If you want, it would be probably be fairly easy to write a script that could submit several votes a second and let it run overnight...

Escondido represents (or used to). I would add two of my favorite places to the list: CARDIFF and LEUCADIA. Just got word recently that our HS reunion will be held in Carlsbad.

With mailinator.com you can easily enter with an (almost) infinite number of email addresses. No registration needed. Just enter [email protected] into the voting form and then go to mailinator.com and check the mailbox for somename.

I've got someone monitoring a catch-all email for the emails above.

I just need people to enter them in. It's legal, because someone is actually validating them as they go.

I've been able to push myself to above 30 percent for the first time in the contest, which is good. I've consistantly won the panel vote from 50-70 percent throughout the contest.

So, if the panel comes in at 70, I would win (barely). But the closer I can get to 40, the better.

BTW, you guys rock.

On Thursday morning, I was losing 25% to his 75% fan vote.

After a furious charge Friday night, I slowly went from 25 to 52 percent as time ran out! I had 10+ people rocking the emails for me. (That catch-all account was perfectly legal, since it wasn't automated). My opponent was freaking out, because his lead had evaporated in the course of 12 hours.

However, I lost the panel vote, 80-20. Whatever.

Thanks for everyon'e help. That was fun.

Entirely possible that while the catch-all vote was legal, it didn't set well with the panel. Further entirely possible that the panel was there to help balance shenanigans in the vote.

Shrug. Whatever? :)
