This is the second time this has happened to me. I'm looking for a solution.

<table bgcolor="#ffcc00" border="0" cellspacing="1" width="98%"><tbody><tr><td align="left" bgcolor="#d9f4ff">3-3-LR 50 (OT: 11:41) Shawn Rennicke pass completed to WR Jack Parker for 22 yards. The receiver went out of bounds. Tackled by S Tommie Cook. Parker gained 13 yards after the catch. The quarterback threw into double coverage.</td></tr> <tr><td align="left" bgcolor="#d9f4ff">1-10-LR 28 (OT: 10:56) Shawn Rennicke pass fell incomplete, intended for WR Jack Parker. OLB Lewis Oliveros defended the pass.</td></tr> <tr><td align="left" bgcolor="#d9f4ff">2-10-LR 28 (OT: 10:50) Shawn Rennicke pass completed to TE Tommy Middleton for 5 yards. Tackled by S Timothy Palumbo. The quarterback threw away from the double coverage.</td></tr> <tr><td align="left" bgcolor="#d9f4ff">3-5-LR 23 (OT: 10:10) Shawn Rennicke pass completed to WR Carlos White for 18 yards. The receiver went out of bounds. Tackled by S Timothy Palumbo. White gained 8 yards after the catch. The quarterback threw away from the double coverage.</td></tr> <tr><td align="left" bgcolor="#d9f4ff">1-5-LR 05 (OT: 09:40) Richard McElmurry ran a draw inside the left guard for 3 yards. Tackled by DT Roy Summers. </td></tr> <tr><td align="left" bgcolor="#d9f4ff">2-2-LR 02 (OT: 09:17) Dwayne Joyner ran around the left tackle for 1 yard. Tackled by DE Josh Frederick. The ball was fumbled and recovered by LR OLB Ronald Shea to the LR 01.</td></tr></tbody></table>

As you can see, we ran 5 plays in FG range, in OT. I've seen this before several times and have even fumbled the ball on the line before, but recovered.

Is there anyway I can change my gameplan to account for this? It seems that at least from the 5 yard line the FG should be automatic.

Can someone ask Jim about this the next time he answers questions?

I don't feel too bad about losing, as if it comes down to overtime, its basically a coin toss. This seems like an AI flaw though, as I don't see anywhere, were I can determine if we kick a FG in OT.

A lot of coaches would go for the kick on third down there, that "just in case" call.

To be honest I have never paid attention to if FGs are kicked on 3rd (or sooner) down in OT. If it doesn't happen at all then that is indeed something that should be added.

they don't call it at all in my experience. I would assume that most coaches would kick it once they got to the 20 at least. And definitly at the 5.

Fairly well-known issue. This appears to be a case that was unaccounted for in development. If the score is tied, the kick doesn't come before fourth down unless the game perceives that time is running out, which can lead to even worse results than what you posted above. I got booted from the FOFL playoffs on this little gem this season:

DOLA: In case it isn't clear, in a tie game, we got in field goal range, used our last timeout, then ran the ball. The regulation clock expired, and we lost in overtime. There was an instance in the IHOF (last season, I think) where the same thing happened to my team, but we won it in overtime.

To be clear, it doesn't *always* do this. I haven't quite figured out how the game determines when to kick the last-minute FG. My team won the ECFL Bowl on a third down FG...

Jim has stated that he wants to fix the end-of-half logic, that truly is probably the most frustrating part of the game. I just had a game where I was in FG range near the end of the half and just ran the clock out... also have heard of timeouts called at the end of the half that left time for the kick after the FG (actually every end of half FG seems to leave time for the kick, with the team calling the timeout too early), which was returned for a TD. Hopefully that's a high priority on the next patch/release.
