Seriously, WTF is going on here? Some deranged serial killer leaving clues and taunting authorities, or the leftovers of some grizzly bears?

Sixth severed foot surfaces off Canadian coast

(CNN) -- A severed foot -- the sixth this year -- washed up on the shore of a Canadian island on Wednesday, police said.

<!--endclickprintexclude-->The right foot was found by a local woman walking on the beach, said Sgt. Mike Tresoor of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the town of Campbell River on Vancouver Island, British Colombia.

Authorities were planning an afternoon news conference to release more details.

The foot was the sixth discovered on shorelines in the area since August, according to local police and media reports. Another foot -- a severed left foot still clad in a shoe -- was found Monday on the shore of Westham Island, south of Vancouver. Police said it was taken to a coroner for DNA testing.

The severed left foot, which was in a shoe, was taken to a coroner for DNA tests, she added.

"Our first step is to establish identity," said Constable Sharlene Brooks of the Delta Police Department in British Columbia. "It is a little mysterious, but we don't know if it is linked to others."

The Vancouver Sun newspaper said the first four feet found in the area were all right feet, making the foot found Monday the only left foot. Although the gruesome finds have drawn international attention, police said it may take some time to unravel the mystery.

"We suffer from the 'CSI' effect; people think this can happen very quickly," Brooks said. "It could take weeks or months. And even if we get a DNA sample, we need a sample to match it with."

The mystery has caused a stir and given birth to many rumors, locals say. One newspaper has began investigating a rash of young men who have gone missing in the area.

Some have wondered if the feet could belong to a group of men who were in a plane that recently crashed in the waterway where the feet were found.

I'm betting on the plane crash theory. I don't think an animal would carry a foot to the water and certainly not 6 times. A serial killer might dump 6 bodies there's no way he could plan on just the feet floating up to shore though I guess he could place them on the shore and make it look like they washed up.

Sounds like plane crash and some freaky luck going on.

I would believe the plane crash theory, but, unless the way it crashed it cut off the feet of the people aboard, I find it highly unlikely it's a plane crash. When a plane goes down, people don't get torn apart in any particular order. Some maybe almost completely intact while others are missing limbs and other body parts, but, I've never heard of all passengers having the same body parts torn off of them.

Agreed which is why I included freaky luck in my post.

Animals don't leave feet behind either.

Serial killers might but why the different foot on the last one? Kinda breaks up the pattern and if it was a killer then there really seemed to be a pattern.

Of course, the cops don't have to be geniuses to recognize animal bites and tears so it's either 2 or 3 IMHO and I like the plane theory more. Also, we don't know how many passengers were on the plane so we don't know that all of them had the same body parts torn off of them; just six of them.

But, I'd like to know when the story came out. If it's current it almost can't be an airplane crash. I don't think much would survive from August until now if they all died the same time. That makes no sense.

Actually I call shenanigans on all of it.

WTF was the fifth foot if 4 were right feet and this was the first left foot???

Defintitely agree with you on it having to be freaky luck. I think also, if it was a plane crash, DNA could be done because there would more than likely be relatives to compare DNA with and that would prove that the feet were from passengers of the plane. Even though the cops said that they will try to get DNA samples, they didn't say who they were going to try and match them up with.

Are they all male feet, all female, a mix? It's the 5th found since August, that's almost a year and I didn't read anything that said what state of decomposition they were in. The plane crash theory said it crashed recently, but, didn't say how recent, so that could rule out the plane crash theory if most of the feet were found before the plane crash.

Well, if 3 more left feet are found, then there's a pattern for sure and I would lean more towards this being a serial killer leaving his calling card or someone not disposing of human remains the way they should be.

I think this will be interesting to see how this mystery is answered.
