Am I missing something here or have some TV execs run out of things to show. The last couple days I have noticed a chanel running Classic NBA drafts. What the hell is the appeal of watching this?

I understand classic games. They are fun to watch. But classic drafts? You too can relive the thrilling experience of watching David Stern announce names from the podium. Watch his style change throughout the years as he perfects telling us who's life the Knicks will ruin next by drafting... Watch Larry Brown draft potential offensively talented players with the goal of sitting them on the bench for years until they give up all hope of scoring to focus solely on defense...

I get the lure of the draft as it happens live but I can't imagine ever wanting to watch a draft as a rerun, no matter how good of a draft it was for my team.

I'll watch pretty much anything on a classic sports channel. I love old drafts.

Then again. I'd even watch random sportscenters from 15 years ago (unedited, just the straight half hour of whatever was important that day), so I'm probably an outlier here.

I've caught a bit of these old drafts over the last couple of days. Contrary to you, I dislike watching live drafts but enjoy watching old drafts.

It's not so much watching the announcements over again (although I cannot get enough of David Stern's 1984 porn stache). I just like seeing what perceptions were about players back then, now that we know how all their careers went. For instance, the Jazz taking John Stockton instead of some point guard from BYU named Devin Durrant. You get to see all the commentary talking about what a tough call that must have been for the Jazz to take the no-name guy from Gonzaga over the local hero (who ended up playing 63 very unremarkable games in the NBA).

"What do the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Titanic have in common?"

"They both look fantastic until they hit the ice...."

Classic sports drafts are among some of the best programming on ESPN Classic. I was at the casino playing poker yesterday morning and saw that ESPN Classic was showing car auctions for about five hours. Even HGTV can only stand to show an auction for about a half hour.

Then tonight we have Searching for Bobby Fischer on ESPN Classic, just in case any of you were wondering whether or not chess was a sport.

With the second pick in the 1984 NBA draft, the Portland Trail Blazers select Sam Bowie, center, from the University of Kentucky.
