That sucks.
He was a very liberal, political comic whose views didn't usually match mine, but damnit all, he was funny as heck. I'll miss having him around.
And to be honest, I am surprised he was as young as 71. Always thought he was older.

Shit everyone seems to be dropping (knocks on wood)
Sooner or later, everybody does.
The key is to delay the exit (stage right) as long as possible, or if you can't do that, have as much fun as you can before you shuffle off the mortal coil.
Carlin always seemed to be the guy who found a laugh in anything, so I guess you can say 'mission accomplished' to the latter.

I am in a state of mourning now...He is, will be one of my favorite comedians.
I was not into comedians at all until my mom remarried. My step brother played a George Carlin LP one night in our bedroom and I could not stop laughing (I was 12). Ever since, he he has always been one of my favorites.
RIP George, you will be missed.

Wow.
Was just listening to his stuff on the way in to work this morning. Literally twenty minutes ago I was listening to the end of his "Jammin in New York", about how human life is temporary and the world will just keep spinning on without us.

A lot of memories of Carlin while I was in high school.
My favorites were his two famous ones: seven words and the sports differences. I thought the latter was very clever but I have never personally agreed with it and slowly grew to dislike football because of it.
One of my favorite comedians. His last two specials on HBO were about death but he was still great. I will miss him.

I love the "driving 500 miles in circles doesn't impress me" line he had when talking about racing. And how real sports require the chance of an injury. In the end, football is the only real sport. Thanks to George for setting us straight. :)
"In football, you are penalized. In baseball, you make an error. 'Oopsie, I made an error.' "

Some of my favorites
Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man…living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn’t want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer and burn and scream until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you and he needs money.
One of the better ones on Sin
“If you woke up in the morning and said I’m going down to 42nd street and commit a mortal sin, save your car fare: you did it, man! It was a sin for you to want to feel up Ellen. It was a sin for you to plan to feel up Ellen. It was a sin to figure out a place to feel up Ellen. It was a sin to take Ellen to the place to feel her up. It was a sin to try to feel her up. And it was a sin to feel her up. There were six sins in one feel, man!”

I heard this on the way to work today and really got bummed out. Carlin was easily my favorite and had a great deal of influence in my own amateur standup. I really regret not having seen him perform live.

Clear out some space on your DVRs. HBO is going to show all 14 of his specials over the next two nights. Here's the schedule:

Looks like SNL is showing the very first SNL tonight which Carlin hosted. I've never seen this episode and am looking forward to it.
