I've had an idea for a while and have been waiting for the right time to throw it out there, Dutch's "Grilling Ribs" thread kind of made me think about it again.
What do you guys think about a "recipe thread"? Not someplace for "frou frou" recipes, but for times like this - how to make great ribs, great burgers, all of the recipes that FOFC'ers have that are kind of "their own". I know we've had "what should I make for dinner" threads, and that kind of thing, and that got me thinking that a central location for ideas of how to make something new, but also "tried and true" would be a cool thing to have.
Great idea? Horrible idea? Poll forthcoming...

I might read here and there but I don't have anything to contribute. So there is no poll option for me. ;)

Sorry, I should have thought of that...but I'm going to figure that reading it leaves you out of the nay category, so that's close enough to a yay for me :D

My only thought is it would be more useful if discussion was kept to a minimum in it. Otherwise it gets too hard to find the actual recipes. A little discussion might be useful, still.

I agree...I'm not thinking that it be a place to discuss, evaluate, etc...more just post recipes that you have tried and reccomend, and I think it would be good to have the name of the recipe bolded so that they stand out more too...if we get a bunch of them, I'd love to do a database at some point and make it public somehow, but that is a long way off :)

If this were Front Office Footballers' Wives Central, then that would be an awesome idea!

We've done that before. Being FOFC, it didn't exactly go as planned...

LOL, I'd forgotten about that thread! It started off rough, but people did actually post real recipes, and besides...we've all matured in the 3 years since that thread was started...haven't we????
That is why I posted the poll. I know not everyone will be on board with it, but there have been enough food/recipe based threads that I figured it was worth a shot...

I might as well say it here: I hate long threads.
More to the point, I hate the idea that multiple threads that tangentially approach being similar to one another can't coexist without someone saying, for example, "That goes in the recipe thread." Pretty soon you've got the front page littered with twenty-two threads that are all fifteen+ pages long and then who wants to read a thread for the first time once it gets to 800 posts? It's one thing if it's the Maximum Football thread or the child molester thread, but we don't need to do it for everything.
I'd just kinda like to read about good pasta dishes three months from now without having to figure out if the discussion started on page 23 or page 31 of the recipe discussion.

FWIW it seems like the two can coexist. As long as people feel free to start their own threads about a recipe or cooking idea without being told "Take it to the other thread" than both could exist and cater to their particular audience.

I am fairly sure that Autumn and I share a brain. :). As I was reading I was thinking exactly what she said. It wouldn't have to be the ONLY thread about food. Maybe it could even go somewhere with "longer" threads, dynastys or someplace off the main OT board??? Like I said, it was just an idea...we can take the input/suggestions here and figure out the best format amd place for it.

I'll pre-empt: take your recipe to the thread that will start in 2011!

Did you start a thread to discuss whether or not you should start a thread?
