I've noticed a couple seemingly odd retirements in my MP league. Not odd in the sense of being unrealistic, as we all know some extra weird real-life retirements have gone down (ie-my man Ricky Williams). But odd in that it made me wonder what all would influence a player's decision to retire.
For most early retirements I'd noticed that in the last year of a player's career they had a significant reduction in playing time, or a major injury, something along those lines. But just recently I noticed a draftee of mine who played a solid career as an 88 OVR DT, but had left my team due to cap reasons, decided to retire after his 9th yr pro. He had been signed to a 3 yr deal by SDO and started all 16 games, had comparable stats to the rest of his career and had no injuries.
Just wondering if we know what all influences a player's decision to retire, some bit of randomness I assume, and I also assume playing time has a large role. Another player that made me wonder is my QB, Eli Manning, who i assumed would retire after his 14th yr as no QBs in my league had lasted beyond that point, but is now heading into his 16th year. What's the longest a player has played? Does re-running the stage change who decides to retire? (not that I would do that)
It just occured to me after typing this that I should check the DT's age, and sure enough he was drafted at the tender age of 26, and thusly retired when he was almost 35. So that makes much more sense. I'd still like to hear peoples thoughts on this tho.
