I have just seen a 19 year career, for a guy that started as a rookie. Have you ever come across a 20 year guy at QB?

I signed a 20 year 0/0 mentor QB in my latest MP league.

Has any player at any position played more than 20 years?

Gordie Howe?
What was his QB rating?

To be more specific on my "No", it's a data structure thing (I think)... gstelmack can probably confirm, but I don't think there's room for more than 20 seasons of stats for an individual player.

Probably 0. Or maybe some pts for elbowing DE's coming in for the sack.

That's actually something, that kind of spoils FoF for me right now, I want to see a whole lot more of variance of career lengths.

A whole lot more? Really?

I think 22 may be the actual max, although the graphic runs out at 20. I ran into this problem when I was working on the historical files with a couple of kickers and Blanda.
I think FOF does a really great job with player aging and you can see good players (depending on position) retiring after anywhere between 7 and 15 years. I think that's pretty good variation.

I do miss a bit of randomness. Strictly speaking from memory and without any testing, it appears like players retire with very little leeway. Great QBs that are allowed to play retire after 16-18years, some might retire a year or two earlier, but I have yet to see or hear from one staying longer. Aside from those two discussed in this thread obviously. In my guestimated 1000 years of FoF07 I would have liked to at least once have had a QB play as long.
Or a WR for that matter. I don't remember seeing a WR ever playing past their 15th year. Jerry Rice played 20, and it just appears to me, like that would never happen in FoF. Much less a player playing even longer than that.
I'd also like to see some players age better, the rare Barry Sanders kind of guy that seems to play as well in his 10th season as he ever has. Or in other words didn't lose part of his bars after his 7th season or so.
This spoils the illusion for me much more than the shortsightedness of the single player AI ever could, that this is appearently impossible.

Please do entertain me with more words! You appear suspicious!

All we've determined is that (we think) no player plays past year 20. You seemed to recoil in horror, asking for "a lot more" leeway. That seems to me to suggest that you believe that, perhaps, a substantial number of players ought to play past season #20, and that maybe a fairly number ought to play well past that point... 23 or 25 or 30 perhaps?
I candidly don't see what that would add to the game, and I have trouble imagining how this is really something that you could be so disappointed about as to say it's impeding your ability to enjoy the game. Have a quick look at the NFL... how many players have put more than 20 seasons? How many of them were non-kickers? Is this really a major issue?

Well, that definitely wasn't meant to be taken this way.
I really don't get any kind of sense of me being horrified, or that I would think that average career lengths should be increased.
I just want a bit more variance. Admittedly I'd prefer it on the enlengthening side of the spectrum, but that doesn't mean I would want a significant number of players play far longer than they do.
It just need to be enough to be barely noticeable, what that means? I'm not sure, maybe one in the league at a time, maybe one every century, maybe one per position at any given time.
I can only point to Jerry Rice as an example, a WR playing 20 years and 18 of those with upper echelon statistics. And that's missing from FOF as of now. At least I haven't seen it happening or heard anyone write about that. And considering that I've spent a couple of hundred years in FOF and have been reading here for around 6 years I would like to think that this would have happened to catch my attention.
It hasn't. Thus I'm led to believe it hasn't happened and probably won't happen. And that spoils a little bit of the fun I'm having with FOF. Now mind you, it's not a deal breaker or a major issue as it might have come of initially, but it still would add a little bit to the game for me.
What would it add? Well, just the feeling of reality, that anything can happen, that it's not just a number of calculations that are being run and presented to me. It just adds a bit of immersion.
Btw: I'd also like to see a couple of kickers stick well into 20 years of experience. But then, I also really liked the onetime happening of Defensive Backs, Linebackers or even Linemen catching balls for your team, once you ran out of healthy Receivers.
Again, just the sense of "anything can happen, no hard limits", that's what I'm after.
And I'd like to have an option, that if playing a career long enough potential advancements in health and training would allow players careers to span longer. But that's something different and would also allow the future stadium with holographic fields, or whatever it was, to be brought back.
Edit: And I'm definitely not talking about the 20 season limit that seems to be there. If a skill position player outside of QBs played past their 15th year every once in a while that would be welcome.

This was an exploit but.... 20 years so far..have not tried to see if I can extend it further, if that is even possible.
