It's the second day of games ever in the league.
New York and Washington are playing. The New York team won 12-10 in the opener.
38 year old SP Alberto Loya, who announced the day before that he's only going to play the league's inaugural season and then retires, is pitching for Washington in the 4th inning. Robert Estes, New York's SS, is up to bat. It's 3-2, New York's ahead.
Loya hurls a pitch that hits Estes in the hand and bruises it so badly he has to be taken out of the game.
New York has no other shortstops on their roster, so they go with their youngest bench player, 27 year OF Karl Spring as the emergency player.
Spring comes tearing out of the dugout, doesn't even bother stopping at first base to pinch run, but instead flies straight for Loya, leaping and pounding on him.
Loya starts punching Spring in the gut and the benches clear, a full-scale sprawl ensuing.
The umpires clear out the mess and Loya and Spring are both tossed.
New York then goes with their 33 year old backup C, who's the best hitter left on the bench. His 0 range and .945 rating are ugly and the Star-Spangled Eagles strike there often on their way to a 5-4 comeback victory.
The most amusing part?
New York's team name is the Fighting Mulberries. :D
