It doesn't appear that Dumbledore has a shriveled, blackened hand. I wonder if they're leaving that out?

I wouldn't be surprised if that gets left out so that they don't have to explain it.

Wasn't that a fairly big part of the storyline though? I don't see how they could do the movie well without it...

I read elsewhere that it appears Fenrir Greyback is chasing her, so maybe they moved part of the attack at Hogwarts outside? Other folks mentioned the attack at the Weasley's home, but that was from DH...

Not a bad trailer. In answer to Jeebs' question.......I didn't see much of his right hand during the trailer (though admittedly I didn't click through frame by frame). Mayhaps it's his right hand? It seems too important a plotline to leave out...
Melissa Anelli of The Leaky Cauldron is posting blog entries about a set visit she did in January, I guess it's worth checking those out (I think the site is bogged down, it's taking awhile to load for me).

From what I saw of the frame by frame, even though he grabs the memory vial with his left hand, when they show the close-up of it it appears to be in his right hand. Also, when he's on the island and summoning the fire, he has his wand in his right hand...

Well sir, you definitely trump my weak skills! :) ;)
I still want to read what Melissa at TLC reports, maybe it'll make sense after that. But for now, it's not loading for me, so c'est la vie. :)

i watched it a couple more times
in the scene with the vials, it is very clear to me that you are seeing him hold it in between his left thumb and index finger. and in sthe scene on the island, it is not a big deal that he is using his right hand for his wand, because he distinctly does that in the book, when he is unable to get the cork out of the vial, and then uses his wand to do it for him

Yeesh...I'm an idiot regarding the close-up. Telling the difference between right and left has always been a challenge for me...

Well, it looks like no HBP this November, it's moved to July. I guess the good news is that the final 2 films will be out sooner.
The sixth Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, originally scheduled for a November 21 release, has now been moved to July 17, 2009 in the US and major international markets, according to MarketWatch.com. WB has confirmed the move to TLC. Update: The the official website has changed to reflect the date.
The press release says the reason for the move was two-fold: First, the studio says summer releases are better for "family tentpole" events, and second, they are still feeling the aftereffects of the writers' strike and need the time to make sure the film reaches the widest audience possible.
The new date, said Jeff Robinov, president of WB's motion picture group, does not alter the production schedule for the last two Harry Potter films; filming on the first of the two book-seven films will begin in February. "The good news for [fans]," he said, "is that the gap will now be shortened between 'Half-Blood Prince' and the first part of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.'"
The writers' strike, the release says, "impacted the readiness of scripts for other films--changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move 'Half-Blood Prince' to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer."
I still don't quite understand the reason, esp. how the writer's strike is effecting it since the movie is basically done filming (I think).

I think what they mean is that the writers strike limited what other movies would have been made in that time, and since they don't have something to release in July they're just going to bump HBP to fill that spot.

Yeah, just read some more and it appears that next summer is going to be weak overall. HBP should be next summer's biggest hit, not having to compete against some of the strong movies coming out this holiday season (whatever they are).
I also read the rumors about post-production problems. HBP is perceived to be the most difficult of the books to make a movie from (languid plot except at the end) and therefore, had to put in significant additional scenes to create more tension like
A major attack of the Death Eaters on everyone during Christmas at the Burrow
Also, there's rumor about wanting more Tonks, which is always a good thing. :)

It looks like real reason (there had to be since no one could ever believe stuff that comes out of PR-obsessive executives) was negative publicity. As in they didn't want to release HBP during Radcliffe's stint on stage with Equus. By moving it out of his contract run, they would avoid all the distracting questions during the usual promo efforts.

I guess I shouldn't read fan sites anymore. The amount of fury and anger over this decision is sad. But I guess it's like what we've seen for years in the gaming industry. Are we a nation/world of whiners and spoiled brats?

HBP would be going against Twilight for the same demographics during the holiday season. Bad enough that we find out that Cedric Diggory turned into a vampire named Edward Cullen after he was killed by Voldermot.

If you want to know what the movie is going be like, the following thread is a MEGA-SPOILER going through each chapter of the book and describing what is in the movie and what isn't. But more than that, it pieces together all of the scenes in the movie from trailers, clips, posters, leaked photos, interviews, leaked scripts and test screenings. I thought the thread was very well done and is getting a lot of people excited about the movie, esp. since last week's trailer was one of the best ever.

Didn't know how to best do that since if it was a straight link, it would be easy just to see the mega-spoilers.

Curious... Question based on the trailer itself, not on going to Bucc's link...
I don't remember any wand action between Harry and Malfoy in this book (in fact wasn't Malfoy not even in school for most of this?), but there's a scene in the trailer clearly showing that. I figure I'm forgetting some obvious scene, so figured I would ask the local convention of Potterites if they can tell me what I am forgetting.
Edit: Perhaps at the top of the tower? Wasn't Harry hidden for that entire affair?

There were actually two such pivotal scenes. The obvious one was when Potter saw Malfoy in the bathroom crying and confronted him. Things got nasty, Malfoy tried to kill him and Potter threw the Spectsectrum (sp?) curse that ripped Malfoy open. The other, of course, was Malfoy confronting Dumbledore in the Tower and getting the Elder Wand. In the book, Potter was frozened but in the movie, he was below the floor watching with his wand out.

Of course, the bathroom attack scene, I forgot about that. Doesn't sound like the second one will have featured the attack from Potter to Malfoy, as if everyone who is there in the book with Malfoy is actually there, they would I would guess kill him if they knew he was there when they confronted Dumbledore. But it's a movie, who knows what changes they have made.
Heh...I still miss that "world". Makes you wish there was more coming. Kinda like Tolkien's Middle Earth. I miss the time of the end of the Third Age and the start of the Fourth Age. Sure, there's tons of Tolkien to read and re-read about Middle Earth, but so much of that, fun as it is, reads like a history book. The Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy, though, were so alive by comparison, and always felt to me like there were tons more stories to tell in and around that time than were told.
