I thought I understood cohesion, but maybe I don't.

I thought that a leader with high leadership/high personality was the basis for good cohesion, yet in one of my leagues, that doesn't seem to be working... ideas?

Or better yet, how the <censored> does it work?

"Use the Cohesion Ratings Screen to view the cohesion ratings for each team.

Cohesion ratings are a measure of how well a group of players on a team learns new plays and implements the existing playbook.

The ratings affect both on-field performance and the team's ability to improve its expertise ratings during training camp.

The ratings are mostly made up of an analysis of how long a group of players has been on your team.

They ensure that you have a much tougher decision when trying to determine whether to give your aging offensive linemen a new, expensive contract, or let him go and take your chances with a younger free agent.

The passing cohesion rating is compiled from quarterbacks and receivers.

The offensive line cohesion rating is compiled from offensive linemen and running backs.

The defensive front cohesion rating is compiled from defensive linemen and linebackers.

The secondary cohesion rating is compiled from cornerbacks and safeties."

i will attest that team cohesion matters. after season 1 in the flfl i overhauled a lot of my team via trades and free agency. Now my team is a lot stronger talent wise, and coaching is improved as well. I am yet to see any better results so far in my second season. I am last in every catagory of team cohesion except one. I'm positive that this is the reason I keep losing so many close battles. I am in ecery game, and usually lead in every game, but I am 3-6. I just seem to stall out on many drives that start off looking good. Don't get me wrong, I know there are other things that effect my team's performance, but I gameplan and fix team flaws every week. Just wanted to say that I know team cohesion is slightly causing some bad breaks and maybe more than slightly. I plan on working on this big time during training camp.

After one or two seasons, teams will be loaded with relative new players. The positive effect of cohesion is built on players that have hung around at least, like, seven or more seasons.

I wouldn't imagine it takes seven years to build strong team cohesion. With free agency you would never be able to build up your cohesion. I have seen improvments in other leagues, and in single player that prove you can improve your cohesion rankings significantly in 2-3 seasons. Especially if you give a lot of attention to team activities in training camp.

I think cohesion has a very noticeable effect as well. I run a SP league in which i screw around testing various things and trying mostly to fine tune gameplanning. I have a monster team, stacked with talent from exploiting AI trading weaknesses and run through seasons with no injuries and max cap room. Although my team obviously does very well in this league, I am mostly monitoring the stats of my team and players and I had found that although my team is waaaaaay better than my MP team in talent and other areas, I have terrible cohesion from building the team mostly from the draft and only in the span of about 3-4 years.

I can not produce the numbers that my MP team did in the passing game and couldn't quite figure out why but eventually stumbled on the fact that cohesion was the only major difference between the two teams. In my MP league in fact, my friend and only opponent has had very laclustre success in the getting passing numbers I have, me getting over 5000 yds a handful of times and him barely reaching 4000 most years, this frustrates him because he has very comparable and often better overall talent but has a penchant for constantly replacing his players for new 'better' guys, using free agency a lot more than i do and suffering from bad cohesion in the meantime.
