So, the sky is green, the rain is sideways, and the dogs are going crazy. According to the TV, we're under the tornado warning for another twenty minutes. What should I do with my time?

I would be out checking out this storm if I wasn't home alone with a baby upstairs sleeping. Seeing as how we don't have a basement here, I'm mildly concerned.

Hurricanes suck....but tornadoes are worse IMO.

The lightning is pretty much constant outside - looking out the window, it is like the scene in Collateral where Cruise is blowing people away.
And weather.com is reporting winds out of the SW at 8 mph. Hmm - not quite. But at least the satellite has picked up a signal again. Enough to tell me to seek shelter in a basement :banghead:

Head for a central bathroom, preferably one without windows...or a central closet.

We got through the first run fine...a touchdown about twenty-thirty minutes from here but it looks like we've got two more big ones coming on the back end over the next hour.
Pass and Hoops, I'll keep sending you our bad weather!

Yep, I've started clearing out a small little closet on the first floor, tucked under the stairs. Just in case. First time I've had to do this in six years.

Head into your front yard and re-enact "My Fair Lady". If God likes your performance, he won't smite you with a tornado.

Do not screw around with tornadoes.

I have lived in one house in my life without a basement. I will never do that again.

Sending the pregnant wife out to the yard to test this theory now...

Worst of the weather appears to be gone. Hmm, put the stuff back in the closet or leave it for the wife when she gets home from her business trip?

And then rub one out.
Isn't that what those rooms are for anyways?

Everything cool here. In the middle of it, our landlord showed up with some prospective renters, just as I was saying, "No *way* they're coming in this weather."

Twenty to thirty minutes from you? That's probably not even in your county, you pansy ;)

Speak for yourself.
So far in the north Houston area, I've stared down a cat 3 and cat 1 hurricane, and several tornado warnings right near my house. And my brother in law has a pretty picture of a tornado that hit the north Ft. Worth area a couple of months ago, plus the one that hit the big bank building downtown Ft. Worth a few years ago.

So, it should be odd I wrote that then, considering I live in Fort Worth. Hmmmm.

Hey, I wasn't sure where you were, just seemed a little odd, didn't see any hints of sarcasm either. Never mind then ;- )

I wasn't too clear with my sarcasm. Is there a safe place anywhere in Texas from these things, I am not sure?

Hrm. We don't have local channels and we don't have a radio to warn us. Thanks for the reminder.
We do, however, have a storm shelter that's outside. It's pretty much a concrete block that's 10x10' in the ground.

dola, and after we moved to Oklahoma we learned that by law you have to give people shelter from tornados. We didn't know that, but it's a pretty good law.

Didn't get nearly as much wrath of god as I'd hoped.
Went from grey to pitch black in about 30 seconds flat, hellacious wind, and then some quite nice lightning. Unfortunately, no tornado sirens, and the storm blew through rapidly. Lightning WAS pretty impressive, though.

Do they wear white sheets?
As far as the tornado, by all means go directly to your computer and post in a thread on a forum where you are likely to get some sage advice. Don't leave the computer until all possibilities are exhausted, as you want to make the proper decision on what to do.
