How many hours do you sleep per night?

Groundhog

I aim for about 6 1/2 to 7. Any less than that and I really struggle to get up.

DaddyTorgo

4-5.5 hours during the week - 7-9 on the weekend

Sometimes between 4 or 5 hours, sometimes a lot less.

Typically around six hours, though I prefer a solid eight. It's difficult to do when you have to get up at 5am, though.

Not nearly enough. Probably between 5-6, but often less than 4 (I tend to suffer from insomnia).

Anywhere from 5 to 11, depending on whether I work the next day and how engrossed I am in something the night before.

If I'm playing a good game, either on PC or console, I can easily be up 'til 4 am and wind up only getting 5-6 hours.

If I'm lazy the night before and don't work the next day, well...

It varies.

Like recently, I've been sleeping about 4 hours a night and two nights ago, I got 2 hours.

Other times, I'll go through stretches of sleeping 14 hours a night.

When I can afford it, I like to get about 9 or 10 hours of sleep, but what usually ends up happening is I'll sleep about 4-5 hours at night and then anywhere from 2-5 hours in the afternoon or evening.

Note: This current streak of averaging 4 hours, with 2 hours two nights ago has been without the additional afternoon or evening sleep. So basically, I'm in the middle of a manic cycle right now and it hasn't been a pleasant one.

4-5 hours, plus a power nap (or more) either around lunch or later in the evening.

Basically the answer is "not enough"

Not nearly enough. Probably between 5-6, but often less than 4 (I tend to suffer from insomnia).

When I was doing shift work I'd suffer from 'screwed up sleeping pattern insomnia'. There is nothing worse than not being able to go to sleep. :(

8-9 no matter when I go to bed I simply wont wake up before at least 8 hours.

I sleep during the day.....if I can. I work nights, and watch my daughter while my wife works in the day.

Basically, I have no set sleep pattern, but during my week, it's not unheard of for me to not sleep for almost 2 days. This past Sunday, I went for 32-33 hours straight with no sleep. If I'm lucky, I get 2-4 hours a day during the week.

Once my daughter goes to school full-time this fall, hopefully I'll get more sleep (with the help of my doctor).

I'm usually in bed around 11:30p and up by 6:00a. This seems to work best for me. I've found that I function better at 6.5 hrs of sleep.

Poll? I get 7 hours - but with a newborn sometimes that's broken sleep.

Suburban Rhythm

I am up at 5 am, and typically in bed between 10 and 11.
Even though my kids are 4 and nearly 2 now, I still catch myself waking up when I don't hear somethign going on...I almost still expect it. So the 6-7 hours I get are never solid, and much towards the 6, or lower.

I find that Monday - Weds I am good...Thursday is rough. Thursday night home on the bus I am struggling to stay awake. Friday morning is terrible. Then by Friday afternoon, I've caught a 2nd wind.

Weekends, I probably get about 7, but because I am so used to the weekday schedule, i rarely sleep past 7 or 7:30 on weekends. Sucks to get old!

I usually aim for 6. Typically go to bed around 9:30, waking up at 3:40 (yeah, I know, it's a blast)

Varies greatly, between 3 and 7. I try to aim for 6.5-7 hours, but I wake a lot in the middle of the night and frequently have a hard time getting back to sleep.

The long term effect of sleep deprivation is pretty startling.

Usually around 7 to 8, which suits me pretty well. Although on the few nights when I do get 6 or so, I tend to feel better in the morning...its odd like that.

6-8 typically but since going on a sleep machine for apnea, the difference is amazing. Seven hours of sleep now is like ten hours of sleep used to be.

About 4-5 during the week and 8-10 on the weekends. I need way, way, more than that. Probably once every other week I go to sleep right when I get home from work and I'm out for 14 hours.

Pumpy Tudors

For me, it's usually 5-7 hours a night during the week, skewed toward the upper end of that range. Generally, I'll go to bed around between 12:30am and 2:30 and wake up between 7:30 and 8:30. Bedtime is about the same on the weekends, but I won't wake up until sometime between 10:00 and noon.

Funny that this thread just came up, though. Last night, I got home at 7:00 and immediately went to bed. I almost never do that, but I was exhausted. Didn't fall asleep until around 8:30, woke up at 12:45, stayed awake (still in bed) until 3:30, and then woke up one more time at 8:30. So I had a little over 9 hours of sleep overnight, but I was in bed for over 13 hours. I feel a little weird today.

It's mask that you put over your face to help reduce your sleep apnea.

I typically get about seven, minus however many times the kids wake up at night. Maybe a little less than that.

When I'm feeling overloaded at work, like now, it's more like five hours a night, which is definitely not enough and dumped me into depression last time I did it long-term.

That describes my sleep schedule almost perfectly as well. And I also had a recent crash, two nights ago I just went to bed when I put the youngest boy to bed, and was in bed for about 12 hours. It didn't help me catch up much though I still felt exhausted.

I try to get between 6 and 7 hours. Weekends are sometimes longer. I can go a couple of days in a row with less than 5 hours, but any more than three days I've found that I'll be way too tired and non-functioning.

At lot of people have sleep apnea and they don't even know it (or refuse to do anything about it). I actually have a CPAP machine; however I'm not using it at the moment (my case is different).

Probably 6-7 hours lately because my wife has been kind enough to let me sleep in the basement most nights so I don't have to get up with the 1 month old (who is only getting up once a night now for the most part...woohoo!!) but otherwise it's more like 4-5 hours. It'll be nice once the littlest one is sleeping through the night.

I've thought about going in for testing myself. If I sleep on my back and sometimes on my side I have major snoring -- which means I usually don't sleep well and I'll even wake up with a sore throat. I have an uncle with really bad case of sleep apnea to the point that he was narcolyptic. We'd be playing golf riding in the cart and he'd fall asleep between holes or he'd fall asleep sitting at a table at a restaurant. Since he's gotten the sleep machine I haven't seen him do that once.

I've been getting 6-7 lately which is not nearly enough for me. I really need at least eight but I have a very difficult time falling asleep unless I'm exhausted and an even more difficult time waking up if I don't get at least eight hours.

It can be, and I think in a lot of cases it is, genetic.

I usually get 6-7 per night, but would much prefer 8. I tend not to get what I want, though, due to a heavy workload, a wife who also has a heavy workload, two young kids, and no family support closer than 7 hours away (by car). :(

I have one and use it. My main annoyance with it is that I've get sinus allergies and sometimes wake up in the middle of the night because my nose plugs. Often just before that I'm dreaming about not being able to get enough breath.....

Depends on whether my son is having hypothalamic storms or not. If he is, I will be lucky to get 2 hours. If he is not, I usually get about 7. He usually has storms for about 3-6 weeks at a time, 2-3 times per year.

7-8 hours a night. I don't have a set time to fall asleep, but I get up at 10 a.m. Usually I'm in bed around 2:30, but will sometimes stay awake til 3 or 3:30. I much prefer that to when I was doing morning drive. Then it was about 5 hours of sleep at night, and another hour during the day.

It varies greatly depending on my work schedule. I'll get anywhere from 3 to 8 hours. I really try to limit getting 4 hours or less to no more than once per week. Unfortunately, I don't set my own schedule.
