View Full Version : AUFL '83 starts with allocation draft

Because of a corrupted database (and some financial problems that would be very difficult to overcome), the Alternate Universe Football League is going to finish up our 1986 season and then scrap everything and start over with the 1983 season.
A few important notes about the league:
- it's a historical-hybrid league where the USFL merges into the NFL in 1983, using real players
- four USFL teams (Jacksonville, Memphis, Birmingham and Arizona) join the then-28-team NFL teams. Of those four, Jacksonville remains available
- each GM will protect five players from his franchises real-life 1983 roster as "identity" players
- the USFL teams, because of weaker rosters, will each have the rights to 3 of the 12 real-life USFL rosters from which to pick their "identity" players.
- after the 5-man pre-draft, an allocation draft will take place up through round 25. Once we reach the 26th round, the sim will finish out the draft. GMs are encouraged to submit preferences for the AI to use in finishing out the draft.
- jdavidbakr's Conscriptor utility will be used for the allocation draft (and all rookie drafts going forward)
With the identity players to keep a tie to a team's historical heritage and the ability to draft from near-scratch, the re-born AUFL will present a challenge to any GM, regardless of experience. We already have a solid core of hold-over GMs from the original AUFL, but there are openings available for any interested GMs looking to build a team from the ground up.
The available teams, as of right now are:
AFC: Jets, Patriots, Browns, Bengals, Oilers, Chiefs, Seahawks and the Jacksonville Bulls
NFC: Eagles, Lions, Packers & Buccaneers
The website is: <!-- m -->Alternate Universe Football League | Football the way it might have been... (http://aufl.simsportleagues.com/drupal-6.3)<!-- m --> (that's a temporary address because the current AUFL is wrapping up the playoffs).
If you're interested, please PM me here at FOFC or sign-up over at the AUFL site and post your team preference in the forum there.
The draft is tentatively scheduled for August 20, though the pre-draft for identity players will take place before then.

Just to add to this post, this is going to be an awesome league, especially with the allocation draft, so you'll want to get in right away to take advantage of that. Whether you're new to MP or a seasoned veteran, come on over. We'll also be using a derivative of the database I built for the vNFL house, check out the skeleton of it here:
AUFL Database (http://aufl.jdavidbaker.com/)
Once we get past the allocation draft of course there'll be more rosters and schedules and award teams and players of the week etc...
We've also got some cool in-game logos, here are a few samples:

Just updating available teams:
AFC: Jets, Bengals, Browns, Jacksonville Bulls (with Jim Kelly), Chiefs & Seahawks
NFC: Eagles, Lions, Packers & Bucs
If you'd be willing to simply draft for one of these teams with no commitment to stick around afterwards, that'd be a great. I'd like to put a human imprint on as many franchises as possible, understanding that MP is somewhat saturated right now and most people don't have time to join another league.

New update: the Bulls and Browns are off the board.
The Seahawks (Largent & Payton), Lions (with a tough up-the-middle defense), Chiefs (with one of the league's best secondaries), Jets (the NY Sack Exchange) and Bucs (if you're looking for a challenge) are still available.

Chiefs and Bucs have been claimed. Jets & Lions are still available. We're still in preseason, so there's still time to jump in and be a part of the action.

Dallas is available. Jets & Lions are taken, so the 'Boys are the only open team at the moment. We're about to play week 7.
Dallas is currently 3-3 and in second place in the NFC East behind the 4-1 Eagles.
Take a look at their roster here (http://aufl.jdavidbaker.com/show_team.php?id=7). Some good players in there including the great Tony Dorsett.
