I am trying to downgrade my new laptop I bought for the wife to XP. I have a CD. The first time I booted from the CD fine, but it did not recognize the SATA drive. After some research, I discovered that I needed to put the driver on the CD so it could be recognized. I tried to copy the install files from my Windows XP to my hard drive (different computer) but got an error. I went and downloaded XP from a torrent site. I then used a program called nLite to copy the driver into the XP installation and burned it on a new CD.

But when I bring up the boot menu and choose to boot from a CD it just goes straight into a Vista. I checked and all the right files seem to be in place.

Any suggestions?

Is this a service pack 1 cd? If so, rather than slipstreaming the driver I would slipstream service pack 2 (or pack 3). I had a similar problem and followed the instructions from the website below to create a XP Service Pack 2 dvd.
