I'm very excited as I am the proud owner of a new PC! I had it custom-built and it's very solid, 3 GHz processor, 1 GB video card, 4 GB RAM, etc.
Anyway, I am wondering if you guys have any recommendations on some games to test out my new PC? I know I'm not going to play it nearly as much as my 360, but I wanted to try some new games.
I will probably buy Spore when it comes out next month. I'm in the process of installing WoW for my girlfriend. I also will install Civilization IV which I've never played. And I will play OOTP 9, which didn't run quite fast enough for my liking on my old PC.
Recommendations/thoughts? Any genre game will do nicely. I would like something that will look good on my PC (and my new monitor which will arrive next week).
Thanks in advance :)

Imagine how good minesweeper will run now!!
But seriously dude, you could play absolutely anything and have it run well I'd think. :D

Played Orange Box on 360. Crysis is a game I'm definitely gonna pick up at some point.
I haven't played minesweeper in like 10 years :p

For Civ 4 go to civfanatics.com and DL the mod, Revolution. Im having a ball with it, tons of Civs on the map and if you're not good, your people will overthrow you!

World in Conflict is a solid RTS with one of best storylines I've seen in a game. The Witcher is a very fun game with a mature storyline if you're into RPGs (used to be buggy on some systems, not sure if they straightened that out yet). Company of Heroes is a bit older now, but still a great game. And Civ: 4 Colonization is due out next month.

Dude, let him learn to play Civ4 (then Warlords, then Beyond the Sword) first before playing anything from CFC. But then play Civ4 Colonization after that.

Played Orange Box on 360.
Well if you're a fan of Team Fortress 2 then the PC version has updates which the console versions have not received (360 may get them, PS3 version will not). Achievements and unlockable weapons for the Medic and Pyro classes have been released. The Heavy update gets released next Tuesday.

If you're just getting started with Civ 4, then you won't need another game for a while.

Get GRID. It's the best driving game for the PC out there.
You can't go wrong with Bioshock, STALKER, Crysis, or Gears of War to make the most out of your system.

I still play COD4 every night. Mouse > 360 or PS3 controller.

Europa Universalis III is a nice one for the higher end machines. Provides a good conquest game that varies just enough from Civ IV to make it a different experience.
As far as CivIV goes, just buy BTS right off the bat and start playing with it. It's so much better than vanilla CivIV. I still play it a ton. I played it for 5 hours last night after the baby went to bed.

It's kind of funny because someone gave me Civ IV and Beyond the Sword for free. I traded away BTS on Goozex and would have traded Civ IV away too, except nobody wanted it. This was like 6-9 months ago before I even thought about getting a new PC.
I can always pick it up later though :) Downloading the patch for Civ IV has been a nightmare but it's finally done.
I have Gears of War, BioShock, and Call of Duty 4 for my 360. This shows how much PC & console gaming have merged in the last decade. It's crazy.
I am excited about Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2, though both are far away. I've never played Diablo 2, so I may pick that up on the cheap at some point.
My immediate buy list is Spore & Crysis.
My eventual buy list is Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, and maybe some Civ expansions.

Company of Heroes (WWII RTS)
F.E.A.R. (...not if you have a weak heart, though)
Titan Quest is a fun Diablo clone. Not as good as Diablo 2 (from what I remember of Diablo 2), but good enough to tide you over until D3 comes out.
Battle for Middle Earth II (LOTR RTS)

Age of Conan is a great MMO. Graphics are fantastic and should be sweet on your new PC.

If anyone has Civ IV and doesn't want it I will happily buy it from you, expansions too. I keep forgetting to go out and get it. Then again, Spore is due in my mailbox in a couple weeks, so i should wait...I won't....but I should.

Crap, this thread got me playing Civ 4 last night. I was up way too late playing "just one more turn", and I overslept my alarm clock and was late for work this morning.

Played my first game of Civ 4. I played a lot of Civ 1 and 2 but I don't think I really played Civ 3. Anyway, I tried one of the medium difficulties (4th easiest out of 8) and I got my ass kicked. It was pretty funny...
I need to read up some tips on how to play. I was pretty solid the first 2 Civ's (especially Civ 2) but they've changed a lot of things and really have made it more user-friendly. I think I'll try again later tonight on the 2nd easiest difficulty level (so I don't feel like a total pansy ;)).

With just 4 gigs? I don't know about that.
I am going to be playing Civ IV with my new computer this weekend. Any tips or advice where I can start?
