View Full Version : Defensive Play Calling

This has been bugging me for ages but I never thought to ask. Some situations I will have "Aggressive Run" zeroed out; for example on 1st and 10 I might play 50% Run and 50% Pass with 0% Agg Run and 0% Agg Pass. Yet my Coach will still call an aggressive run or aggressive pass defense sometimes on 1st and 10.
Does that happen to you as well, or is my game broken?
Cheers,

Check your Defensive Game Plan Adjustments window.

Check your Defensive Game Plan Adjustments window.
It's happening when the DGPA screen reads "same". Thanks though.

I just ran an SP simulation with my gameplan set at 1st=100-0-0-0 2nd=0-100-0-0 3rd=0-0-100-0 and 4th=0-0-0-100, all "same" on the adjustment screen, and it kept to it except at the end of the half when the other team went into hurry-up and my team went to aggressive pass for all downs.
Could the situation you describe be a hurry up or run out the clock situation? It seems that the game engine bails on the game plan in that scenario.
Is there a way to control what your defense does when the other team goes into hurry up/slow down?
You have to remember that FoF is bugged. In the Run/Run Aggressive columns, you have to switch them for them to be right.
This is a known bug and has been discussed at length here.
If you want Run Aggressive zero'ed out, then you should zero out the Run column, and put the values you want for the 'normal' Run in the Run Aggressive.

I thought that was for Goal Line only...

Yoda, Ben is only talking about the defensive personnel screen in that thread. He even says he believes the basic gameplan screen works fine in that thread. The bug shouldn't be affecting what the OP here is describing.

Actually, if you re-read what he posted, it falls directly in line with what I wrote.

True, it is calling what is on the basic screen correctly, but it's still using the 'bugged' information from the Defensive Personnel screen. He needs to drop down to the Defensive Personnel Choices screen and modify the numbers there to get the result that he's looking for.

I see your point. I think we're reading his statement differently. I was assuming he is seeing the message "...focusing exclusively on the run" in situations he has 0% aggressive run. In that case, the defensive personnel screen has nothing to do with the problem.
You're suggesting he's seeing a goal line, nickel, or dime package called, in which case you're absolutely right that the defensive personnel screen is the issue. Though as far as I know, it only affects Aggressive Run <-> Run and not Aggressive Pass <-> Pass.
We need some clarification from the OP here.

I am aware of the bug and the workaround. Again, thanks for the help though.
I believe I have found the problem, and it really isn't a problem, just a misunderstanding on my part. After looking at my game logs, jdadvidbakr is indeed correct, the Aggressive Pass issue appears to only occur at the end of halves and games - indicating it is just the Coach responding to the hurry up offense, which is fine.
As for the Aggressive Run issue, I've been watching the game in solevision and have been interpreting "The defense is keying on the run" as being an aggresive run defense - likely because I associate keying on the run with my Strat-o-Matic Football days. After checking the logs however, those plays are identified as regular run defenses.
So there really doesn't seem to be an issue. Thanks for the attempts to assist, but my post was a collosal waste of time - though I did learn a little bit more about solevision.
Cheers,
