President Bush is assembling a Coalition that has already begun military operations to disarm Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction, and enforce 17 UNSC resolutions.

The Coalition will also liberate the Iraqi people from one of the worst tyrants and most brutal regimes on earth.

Contributions from Coalition member nations range from: direct military participation, logistical and intelligence support, specialized chemical/biological response teams, over-flight rights, humanitarian and reconstruction aid, to political support.

Forty-five countries are publicly committed to the Coalition, including:

This number is still growing, and it is no accident that many member nations of the Coalition recently escaped from the boot of a tyrant or have felt the scourge of terrorism. All Coalition member nations understand the threat Saddam Hussein's weapons pose to the world and the devastation his regime has wreaked on the Iraqi people.

The population of Coalition countries is approximately 1.17 billion people.
Coalition countries have a combined GDP of approximately $21.8 trillion.
Every major race, religion, ethnicity in the world is represented.
The Coalition includes nations from every continent on the globe.

There are at least 15 countries that have requested not to be identified. I am sure Israel is one of those. I'd suspect several of the others you have listed would also be on that list.

I think unable fits Israel. Incapable would describe Canada.

To be fair, Canada usually does help us in these things, and the last time we killed more of them than the enemy did.

I have no problem with countries wanting to remain silent for now. Whether or not they are Unable or Incapable or something similar doesn't matter. I do think that a clear a decisive list of Unwilling should be recognized.

Hey, give props to Estonia...I was there for six weeks last summer and I have a the blue, black and white flag hanging over my bed. If you want to know patriotism, picture a nation freed from Soviet rule. I'm sure the people of Iraq will have a lot in common with them in this regard. This is a country which is attempting to get into the EU too, which might be jeopardized by their pro-American stance. Good ole Estonia is right!

On combat troops:

In many cases we don't want them from other nations.

In order to be of use to the Americans, a nation's military must have certain technical and tactical competencies. Most nations fail in one or the other. (One of the reasons I dig on Canada as "the incapable" is because their military is in very poor shape.)

We accept "unworthy" fighting allies at times for political reasons, but not because we need them for the fight. The truth is, most other military forces are a burden on our forces.

So when we hear that only a few countries are contributing "substantial" forces, it is probably by design.

Good point Fritz. I gave props to Estonia a minute ago, but in reality they have nothing to offer militarily. The equilment they have is probably outdated stuff from the cold war era, and on top of that they only have the total population of the city I live in (Austin, TX). Some of the other countries in the coalition are in the same boat. What it does provide is moral and possibly economic support, or use of other practical means (bases, supplies, transportation, etc.)

I too agree that any nation can choose not to be recognized one way or the other, but the thing I want to know is:

Who is completely unwilling to step up to this, and why? Those are the nations I will have a very hard time holding relations with in the future.

Actually Israel is technically part of "coalition of the willing." They are participants by providing intel to the coalition.

Dola: Qatar is also where Central Command is ... so count them as part of the coalition of the willing. There are many more participants who didn't go public.

I am willing to bet there are a few "Antis" that are in the Coalition.

I think canada is not officially supporting the war but have medical personal there. They are regarded as some of the best in the world. Furthermore I'm not sure, but do believe that we will be part of the peacekeeping force that is installed afterwards.

The last thing the US needs is Isreal involved. I'm sure Isreal would love to go in and do some ass kicking. Of course, that would piss the hell outta the rest of the middle east

I have adjusted the lists to include Qatar as well as some other minor movements. The Coalition of the Willing for the purpose of this thread will only be those countries that have come out of the closet regardless of what type of support that they may or may not be able to supply. The Coalition of the Unable will include those countries that have stressed support but only behind closed doors regardless of their reasons why. The Coalition of the Unwilling are those countries that have either come out publicly to denounce their support or have chosen to simply not take a position one way or another.

On a personal note, the Unwilling counties IMO are not the friends of the United States of America in regards to this war. Therefore, their support for our country as well as for the other Willing or Unable countries will remain questionable until proven otherwise.
