1. I believe I was created by a loving God.
2. I believe I am alive right now because of the love and mercy of God.
3. I believe every waking minute of my life is a near-death experience, even if I don't realize it.
4. I am not afraid of death; dying is easier than living, and being dead is easier than being alive.
5. I believe that enjoying and appreciating life, being as happy as possible at all times, is the very least gesture of thanks I can make to my creator and savior. I also believe I almost always fail at this.

I don't believe in superstars,
Organic food and foreign cars.
I don't believe the price of gold;
The certainty of growing old.
That right is right and left is wrong,
That north and south can't get along.
That east is east and west is west.
And being first is always best.
But I believe in love.
I believe in babies.
I believe in Mom and Dad.
And I believe in you.
Well, I don't believe that heaven waits,
For only those who congregate.
I like to think of God as love:
He's down below, He's up above.
He's watching people everywhere.
He knows who does and doesn't care.
And I'm an ordinary man,
Sometimes I wonder who I am.
But I believe in love.
I believe in music.
I believe in magic.
And I believe in you.
Well, I know with all my certainty,
What's going on with you and me,
Is a good thing.
It's true, I believe in you.
I don't believe virginity,
Is as common as it used to be.
In working days and sleeping nights,
That black is black and white is white.
That Superman and Robin Hood,
Are still alive in Hollywood.
That gasoline's in short supply,
The rising cost of getting by.
But I believe in love.
I believe in old folks.
I believe in children.
I believe in you.
But I believe in love.
I believe in babies.
I believe in Mom and Dad.
And I believe in you.

Many of us noticed Cronin had disappeared for a while, but he finally emailed some of us earlier this week to let us know he was ok and then mentioned in THIS THREAD (http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=67593) that he had experienced a brush with death, but was getting better now.

Without speaking for Cronin, I am guessing that his recent experiences helped him see other parts of his life in more clarity and he felt good sharing that clarity here with many whom he considers friends and online friends. No intention to force his view on anyone else or try to convert anyone, but more a way to be thankful for what he realizes.
I also am guessing those that responded very poorly to Cronin's post didn't know his recent illness and trials and if they had known that, they would have less likely responded and probably kept to themselves. As this thread is obviously not the appropriate place for them to try to push their beliefs onto Cronin or anyone else and try to force it down people's throats either.
I am thankful that St.Cronin is doing better and glad that it seems his experiences have helped him become stronger rather than breaking him as a person.

Ignoring the chance of life evolving on the earth etc. - Think of the fact that out of the huge amount of sperm your dad had it was YOU that won the race .... ;)
Taking that into consideration I think everyone should try and do their best to help another and be bappy, whether that best is something which is publicly or financially rewarded isn't important ... its the impact on a personal level which really counts imho.

hmm. I appear to have created even more drama than I expected to. EagleFan is correct, I did not have any knowledge of Cronin's condition, perhaps due to poor due diligence on my own part. And I would absolutely NEVER wish anything ill upon him or anyone else, and I'm glad he made it through whatever ordeal he was presented with. Obviously, given the fact I've casually lurked for about 6-7 years w/ about 1 post per year, I don't keep too up to date with the personalities and situations individuals have encountered.
That said, my point, based on the context in which i read the message, and which I did expect to be somewhat controversal stands. The post, as I read it, wtihout benefit of cronin's life experience context, appeared as a holier than grandious proclamation; borderline "everyone should believe what I do". Which frankly, as an atheist, i found very offensive. Much, as i'm sure many of you would react to a islamic, hindu, jewish, or atheist idealogue post. Frankly, as a person with an IQ in the top 1% of the human population, and a highly educated scientific mind, I struggle to see how any intelligent, rational mind could buy in to jesus; and frankly react very strongly to what i see as someone pushing such beliefs in what i feel is an inappropriate venue (in this case a secular sports oriented website). Personally I feel most people tend to cling irrationally to religious beliefs that they were taught at a young age, without any severe critical, scientific, rational, and introspective debate. And when someone who has not intensely analyzed their beliefs pushes their beliefs on others, it offends me.
But obviously I also didn't clearly state my secondary, and more important point; which was meant to indicate regardless of one's beliefs, as long as they appreciate all person's freedom of individual beliefs (as so far as they do not impinge on another's freedoms), said person (in this case cronin) should be well allowed to hold their beliefs, and in fact their life may be positively influenced by them, regardless of whether I or others agree with them.
So no, regardless of how it may have appeared, my post wasn't meant as an attack on cronin, but more a reaction to many years of persecution for holding my own beliefs, which i feel are more rationally developed than most. But I am honestly happy that cronin is well, and would not wish harm upon him, regardless of my personal feelings about his beliefs or how i feel it reflects his intelligence.
Ajaxab

How is expressing one's beliefs imposing them or pushing them on others? If what Cronin did in post #1 of the thread is guilty of that 'crime' then so too is every other single thread on this board. I am guilty of pushing my beliefs about your post on everyone else on the board as are you for saying that Cronin's post offended you as are those who want to defend their favorite college football team's performance yesterday.
To express an idea is not the same as imposing or pushing an idea on others. Discussing the merits of a given position is valuable. Making the imposition of ideas charge brings nothing to the table.

Based on goatman's follow up I take back what I said regarding him not likely making those comments if he had been aware of Cronin's situation. Since he knew before his second post and continued to try to force his beliefs down everyone else's throats.
I wasn't as much defending him with my post as I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately he removed that for himself by continuing.

Frankly, as a person with an IQ in the top 1% of the human population, and a highly educated scientific mind, I struggle to see how any intelligent, rational mind could buy in to jesus;
Ok I'll bite.
First off I'm more of a Christian cynic than a practicing christian, I don't attend church or read the bible.
That being said however I do respect people who do and have done considerable research into Christianity over the years (my wife's an active christian and I try and be supportive of her beliefs and understand where she's coming from).
From the research I've done Jesus definitely existed (if you're really interested there are loads of books/papers available both written by cynics and christians, quite interesting reading in the main imho) and much of the bible is historically correct (that is locations, dates etc. - rather than miracles and suchlike).
While its impossible to prove that he was the son of God etc. (thats why they call it 'faith'? ;) ) ... in my opinion its amazing the impact that he had on the world, he is the one person has influenced world events by his birth more than any other.
Nearly all the major religions active at this time involve him being present (generally as a Prophet) and that alone is incredible imho and proof of his influence, was he the son of God ....
No idea personally (although I doubt it), but then I'm not one of the lucky few who have God talk to them on a regular basis ;)

How can I test my IQ?
Often an IQ test involves paying a company lots of money to take a multiple choice quiz.
Proviso being of course that by paying money to take such a test you instantly prove that you can't be in the upper quartile of intelligent people anyway ;)
(strangely I've never met anyone who's taken an IQ test which showed them to be unintelligent? .. anyone going to fess up? ;) )
PS - My IQ is probably downright awful possibly smaller than my shoesize ... :D

So no, regardless of how it may have appeared, my post wasn't meant as an attack on cronin,
Dude, you called a guy (who you don't know) a "complete and utter idiot" for posting his personal theology.
I have no idea what your IQ is. Like others have said, the fact that you know what your IQ is,that spend time on FOFC to trash other people's religion, and you feel the need to tell us all how smart you are GUARANTEES that you're IQ is far lower than you think. Seriously, only morons brag about their IQs, it's the most reliable IQ test.
But It's obvious that you're in the top 1% of all douchebags.
Atheism is arrogant - you can't even figure out how to behave properly in a message board and we're supposed to figure out that your brain has discovered all of the secrets of the universe?

Didn't that Maximum Football guy who was going to drive around a van full of people's cats and 20 computers playing Maximum Football claim to also have an IQ in the top 1% area?

Is this still going on? Just be nice to each other.
Live and let live. I'm a Christian. Others are not. If you think it's fake or unintelligent, that's fine.
Just fucking be nice to each other, you fucking shitface fuckers.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, fuck that. If someone is gonna call a buddy of mine an idiot for having a moment of reflection, I can say whatever the hell I damn please.
So stick it.
just so you know, cronin is not your buddy. unless you think every person who says something nice about you or is friendly to you on a message board is your friend, if that's the case then i weep for our civilization.

Sorry lil-tony, but she's got the right of things, you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground about her or him, yet you open your flapping maw and insert your ass just the same.
Bravo.

Frankly, as a person with an IQ in the top 1% of the human population, and a highly educated scientific mind,

Yeah, seriously, that kind of "Hi, I'm really a dumb ass" bragging makes the genuine elitists look bad.

This made me giggle.
Cronin, kudos for sharing your faith and what it means to you. On boards like this there is a huge sense of anomitity and many people can come here to "hide" who they are, yet you chose to share something intimate. You took a chance knowing you could be, and most likely would be, criticized or even figuratively crucified.
I'm a Christian and so often can be intimidated by the thought of the consequences of sharing my faith. Your post perhaps made you feel better, but it also encouraged me. Thanks and I'm glad you're doing better.
