Yep. Mostly free ones, but a few paid ones:

MPG - Nifty little app for tracking your fill-ups, mileage, cost, efficiency of various octane levels, etc
YPmobile - Yellow Pages for iPhone, pretty slick implementation taking advantage of the GPS and maps features
Showtimes - Utilizes the GPS feature to find where you are and pull the movie listings for nearby theaters
At Bat - The official MLB.com app for the iPhone - costs $5 but is worth it - very nearly replicates the web-based Gameday app
Air Sharing - A way to use your iPhone to transfer files between computers
BeatMaker - Expensive, but very cool rhythm sequencer
Morocco - Well done free othello game
Moonlight lite - Well done free 3D mahjong game
CannonGame - Cool cannon trajectory game from the Discovery Channel

I've got some others that I don't use as much, like a unit conversion app (Converter), Facebook for the iPhone and Loopt, but I haven't deleted them because they do have their uses.

Something I'd like to see is an app that can parse your Gmail contacts list and import that info to your iPhone contacts list.

Now Playing- Nearby Theater listings plus some other rings
WeatherBug- Nice weather app with much more detail than the apple one
YPMobile- decent phonebook app
WhitePages- about the same as above
Baseball- Almanac of stats from every year
Sportacular- The best free sports scores and stats I have found
AOL Radio- Decent little radio app
Pandora- another music app, same as the website
Shazam- Can identify music playing on the radio or other places
Midomi- about the same as above
Air Sharing- sounds cool, havent set it up yet
Eventful- Cool program that shows you events going on in your area
Characters- Cool program that lets you add characters from WOW and track their stats, items, rep and just about anything else
Movies- Shows tons of info on movies, upcoming releases, dvd releases, directly links to movie trailers and more
GraphingCalc- havent tried it yet, but its obvious what it should do

Shazam is the most amazing program I've used on the iPhone yet. I was extremely sceptical, but it identified even some fairly obscure stuff I played it.

By the way, is there a way to update all of your apps in iTunes at one time? I see the number "6" beside Applications (just under the number of podcasts). That means that 6 apps need to be updated, right? I can't tell which ones need to be updated other than looking at my phone. Is there an easier way to update them?

I've got these freebies:
Sportacular: I like it better than SportsTap for sports info.
SportsTap: Don't use this much any more.
AOL Radio: Very cool radio program.
Pandora: For music.
Facebook
IGN.com Reviews: For game reviews on the go
wwwJDic: Japanese dictionary
eBay
Now Playing: For Movie times, very handy
New York Times: News
Yelp: For finding local restaurants, etc. I don't think it's very good, but I haven't bothered to look for something better yet.
Dice Bag: Rolls various types of dice
Dice: Six-sided dice roller only, but uses motion controls.
Shazam: For identifying music. Handy.
myLite: Turns your iPhone screen white for maximum lighting.
Bubbles: For my kids to play with.
PhoneSaber: Turns the iPhone into a Light Saber. Pretty dumb, but my kids like it.
Sudoku: (Haven't played it yet)

And these I bought:
iFlix: For managing my NetFlix account. ($2)
Vay: RPG. Haven't played it yet. ($5)
Asphalt4: Best game I've seen on the iPhone. Car racing. Polished. ($10)

I believe if you go to your Applications tab in iTunes with your iPhone plugged in, there's a button for "Update all". You can also do updates directly on your iPhone with the App Store application.

I'm not sure where the Applications tab is. The Applications tab on my phone has the sync option, but no update all. I can't find it under the Applications under the Library either.

Highly suggest to not update programs directly from your iPhone unless you want to lock up your phone for 30 minutes while it attempts to download, initialize, install, reboot, install, reboot, install and run down your battery...

Hmm, doesn't usually take that long for me. Obviously it's ideal to do your updating through iTunes, but when I've updated via the phone directly, it usually doesn't take more than about 5 minutes to load the updated version of the app.

It's more ideal updating from iTunes for me since if I update on my phone, when I sync it'll put on the old version because I forgot to download there. Then I have to download and install again. It's usually three installs instead of one if I do it on my phone because I'm forgetful.

Anyone have a recommendation for a task manager application?

I'm using Toodledo right now, but it's web-based. I love the site, love the features, and love that I can access my to-do list from any computer. But because it's web-based it can be slow on the iPhone. I'd prefer to use something application-based.

I'm a big Remember the Milk fan but that, too, is web based and the iPhone optimized site is only available if you're a pro (paid) member. I've heard ToDo is the best of the free task manager apps.

I'd happily pay for a good task manager application, though.

Even in 2.1? It used to take a few minutes to update an app on the phone, now it does it in 30 seconds easy. Plus it actually puts the damn thing back where it previously was instead of on the last page. Honestly, 2.1 rocks. Everything on the phone moves very quickly and I have yet to have any crash since updating. That is in addition to, most importantly I guess, a much improved signal.

Now if they would just give me my farking GPS I will be happy.

Did the signal really improve, or is it just the software in the phone showing more bars for what was the same signal before the update? The reason I ask is that I was getting one or two bars upstairs in our house before the update (calls were fine), and couldn't use the phone in our basement (incoming calls ring through to voicemail and I get frequent "noservice" signal). After the update I'm getting three or four bars upstairs (calls are still fine) and one bar/no service downstairs (calls still ring through to voicemail or I get "no service").

In other words, I don't think the quality of my signal has improved.

You know, you may be right. I still need a few days to decide for sure, but I did have 2 dropped calls today. That is after having no problems with several calls yesterday. We will see how it goes, but it still seems slightly better. Just not as good as I once thought.

I dont really know why, but my apartment just sucks. Sprint doesnt work well and Verizon couldnt hold a signal for more than 30 seconds. Odd considering I have 2 stores for each within 5 minutes.

A friend of mine made the app "Sliders." It takes any picture on your iPhone and breaks it into little blocks and then randomizes it, so you can slide it back to normal. It's like the 15 puzzle game, where there are 16 square slots and 1 is missing, you have to get the numbers in order.

It works to pass the time. ;)

Yeah I know about quickpwn, but the installation instructions for it seem like a much bigger pain in the ass then WinPWN. With WinPWN it's basically just download the firmware, let WinPWN cook it, and then restore it from iTunes and then after that restore your backup.

It's pretty involved process for sure, but having been on the 1.1.4 firmware for awhile, and then discovering my Cydia / Installer stating that there won't be any newer releases prompted me to upgrade to the 2.0 firmware.

I think by the time I did, it was then at 2.0.2, and the KB delays and slow app startups were just driving me completely nuts just trying to conduct basic operation. Really didn't know about WinPWN, to be honest. Thanks for the heads up on that - I'll keep that in mind for future jailbreaking...

I think Midori allows you to hum or sing a song rather than simply listening to a song that's playing nearby, which is what Shazam does.

Just bumping this to see if there exists the app I need.

Sprint (my friend is still suckered in there) has a tool where you can say the business/restaurant/whatever you need in the phone, and using GPS it will give you turn-by-turn directions. So if you are in the middle of Atlanta and say "Kroger" or something, it will give you a list of choices then give you directions to the Kroger you chose from where you are.

Also, I'm trying to figure out which free (or cheap) app is the best for GPS turn-by-turn directions. Any ideas?

I don't know of any app that gives turn by turn directions verbally. I believe Apple is purposely holding them out from the app store due to legal concerns (like can you sue the app maker and Apple if you crash because you were playing with your iPhone and not watching the road). I don't know if that's true but that's why I've heard.

Not to threadjack from miked, but we like the following free apps (updated from my post in the thread):

Lose It!-a great weight loss program where you enter in what you eat and how much you exercise every day. It gives you a budget for calories so you can make your goal weight.

Weighbot-paid app (I think it was $1.99) that tracks your weight; good in conjunction with Lose It!

Lux Touch-Free Risk game

Trace-Free game that is pretty cool...pretty much a puzzle solver

Enigomo-Paid game that I never played before because I didn't have a Mac...good game

Yahtzee Adventures-We love Yahtzee, so we like this one

Cycles-Enter in your wife's cycle so you know when it's time for PMS

The Mac Heist guys are giving away free iPhone / iPod Touch apps as part of their annual Mac Heist Christmas software giveaway (http://givingtree.macheist.com/). Go to the Mac Heist website (http://www.macheist.com) and sign up for a free account, then wait until the iPhone app icons "grow" on the tree. Eventually they will grow large and begin to shake. Click on the icon when it shakes and you have a chance to win the app. I've already won one app (Frenzic, a game) and the Mac Heist guys have really ramped up the number and quality of the giveaway apps in the last hour or so.
