Just curious if other leagues have really good QB play. Like, too good. (Or overly bad pass defense, they go hand in hand).

I did a quick check and the NFL had 12 100+ QB rating seasons in the past 6 seasons. My 2 leagues had 29 in the past 5 seasons and 29 in the past 6 in the other one. In the past 6 seasons, the NFL averaged 7.5 QBs with 90+ ratings per year and my leagues averaged 13 and 11+.

Are other leagues having as much disparity compared to the NFL?

1. Leagues converted from FOF2K4 to FOF2K7 have more talent than the engine expects. It has been proven that leagues with more talent on *both* sides of the ball favor offense heavily. (A league created with 100% top-tier players on offense and defense generates a league-wide QB rating in the mid to upper 90s. A league created with 100% crappy players on offense and defense generates a league-wide QB rating in the mid 60s.)

2. Humans know how to game plan better on offense than defense.

3. Some humans either don't know to do so, or don't take the time to remove the most egregious Rex issues on defense.

4. Some humans either don't know to do so, or don't take the time to flip the two columns on defense that need to be flipped.

If you're playing in a converted league, #1 makes a significant difference. If your league has a number of experienced FOFers, #2 makes a significant difference. For example, many people have said IHOF is the toughest competition out there. It is a converted league, and it has a number of experienced FOFers. League-wide QB rating? 93.5. We had 12 QBs with >100 ratings last season, and haven't had less than seven since the conversion.

SP leagues aren't anywhere near as far away from the NFL in this area. It's definitely a human-introduced thing, enhanced in converted leagues.

"3. Some humans either don't know to do so, or don't take the time to remove the most egregious Rex issues on defense"

So I've used an almost exclusively REXed D so far in this game and heard a few people mention this being a bad thing. What exactly are those egregious issues?

Heh. I have no clue. I just use REX because every time I mess with it I get destroyed.

I'm only aware of the run/aggressive run column swap, but even REX doesn't seem to know about that. At the very least you probably should be swapping the run/aggressive run columns after REXing the defensive gameplan screen.

I've actually had more success working with the defensive gameplan than the offensive. Usually I'll go through and scout my opponent's defense vs. my offense and come up with a game plan, then start with REX - and REX had the same idea I did. Defensively, however, it's not the case, I don't like the defensive REX results. But if you don't know about the run/aggressive run column bug then tweaking your defensive results probably will destroy you :banghead:

I have no idea what else Ben would be talking about on #3 unless it's just the fact that REX will give you a likelihood of playing your goalline defense on 3rd an 17...

Exactly. Good to know that's what you're talking about, makes me glad I'm not missing another vital piece of strategy :)

my normal defensive gameplan is REX, followed by the run column swapping, followed by toning down of the goal line and nickel formations, folllowed by the toning down of the aggressive defense both for pass and run on 'neutral' downs (exemple, on 1st and 10, I don't want to go all out), and possible small adjustements to the pass / run expectations and finally a slight adjustment to the defensive coverage schemes depending on personnel.

A customized version of REX I guess.

And it usually works. (well, except in IHOF but my roster is pretty bad, so I guess nothing would really work)

Can I get a better explanation on these?

3. Check my comments about run aggressive and FFF's comments. Those pretty much cover it.
