Look, I understand the need for advertising to pay for a site, and in general I'll go along with the stupid banners at the top as they are unobtrusive and let us keep this site.

But that freakin' NFL Rush Zone big giant animation box in the upper-left corner with absolutely no close box that prevents me from getting to OT and FOF because it is covering them up is about enough to drive me back into the arms of FF and AdBlock. Fair warning.

I got the fucker again the other day. There's nothing you can do, you can't click on it and get redirected. You have to close the window and start over.

there's these ads with naked chicks that cover the entire screen, that gstelmack apparently doesn't like.

Yup. That ad is more than annoying. It prevents you from browsing, which should not be allowed in any add.

Thanks for the report, GrantDawg. I'll make sure the powers that be get this.

And if they don't act, I suggest...

Hit f5 to refresh and it disappears.

What page does it appear on? I don't use any kind of ad-blocking and I've never seen it. My bookmark takes me right to the Off Topic forum though, so perhaps it hasn't invaded that page?

Speaking of rain and umbrellas, I was at an NCAA Division II football game in a high school stadium last Saturday. There were two heavy rain showers during the game, and I didn't have an umbrella. I got absolutely drenched. My clothes were sticking to me, my shoes were waterlogged, and my hands were pruning. I felt like I needed to move around a little bit, so I got up and started walking down the metal steps of the bleachers. Water + metal steps = Pumpy's feet fly out from under him, he lands on his back, and he bounces down the steps.

I got to be the halftime entertainment. It's not specifically because I didn't have an umbrella, but I probably wouldn't have felt so compelled to move at that moment during the rainstorm if I had had one.

So there's this ad for the Captain Kangaroo DVD box set that keeps coming up on this other site I visit, and I downloaded Firefox with AdScriptBetaBlocker or whatever, and the ad still comes up. It's got audio, too. Mr. Greenjeans keeps telling me that if I don't buy his DVD, he's going to come over to my house and kick my ass. How do I stop this?

This joke is funny every time, but if people kept posting about how annoying it was to keep getting wet when they went out in the rain I'd expect people to ask why they haven't bought an umbrella.

I expect to get wet when I go out in the rain sans umbrella. I do not expect to have a llama dropped on me from the sky, and to be pinned to the ground and unable to move.

Because I don't like the umbrella, and I have had problems with the umbrella on a number of message boards....I mean, uh, in strong winds.

And I believed I covered this (browser/ad war) all in the initial post. But stevew has a much better analogy to how I feel about this.

Right, but if you tried umbrellas and realized they weren't your thing, would you still complain about the rain or would you just suck it up and deal with it?

My thin analogy is getting stretched too far. :)

Very, since complaining about the rain gets you no where, but I can possibily get this to someone who can change it.

Oooo, ooo, another way of looking at it:

I don't mind the rain, or even getting wet in it, because the rain is important to agriculture, keeping the reservoirs filled, etc. It provides a tangible benefit I understand, and I can deal with a bit of inconvenience in return for those benefits. But when it rains for 40 days and 40 nights and destroys the entire planet, then I think I have a right to complain about it...
