Just curious, but, I have not seen ONE ad for either Obama or McCain and it's not from a lack of watching TV.
I've seen tons and tons of political ads for local and state, but, zero for President.
Is there some sort of rule or something that says they can't put any out until closer to the election or something?
I have to admit that I don't miss them, just seems odd that I have not seen any and it's almost October.

You live in California, which should be easily won by Obama in November. Same reason I don't see any in Illinois either.

What? I thought the Apple vs. PC adds were for the upcoming election??

It's probably because you live in California. Why would either presidential candidate waste money advertising there?
I live in Michigan and have seen and heard a tons and tons of political ads for President.

Thank your lucky stars you live in California. In Missouri, we're lucky to get through a commercial break without at least one ad. It's ridiculous, but I suppose we've grown used to it during election years.

Yeah...same here in Florida. You cant go more than 2 commercials in a row(on a major network during primetime) without seeing a political ad.
I suppose they work, since they keep doing it, but I have long since tuned them out as background noise.

I see a lot. Don't worry, you're not missing much. Same old lines as always.

Just seems odd. Bush was no shoe in for California, but, I remember seeing both Edwards and Bush ads for the last election.
With Palin as VP on the Republican ticket seeming to get some of the estrogen vote that Hilary would have gotten, I would think that there would be something from Obama to sway those ladies back to increase his popular vote tally.
Eh, oh well, was just curious. :)

I've started seeing a few state political ads, but that's it down here...

i saw an obama economic ad last night -- we get the occasional few ads here in MA, but not too many

I am in DC, meaning our local networks broadcast to Virginia, which is considered a swing state in this election. I have a Tivo and never watch commercials, yet I see Obama and Mccain ads constantly. :)

I've been seeing them for a while here in Wisconsin.
My god, ads play to the lowest common denominator.

I've seen precious few in Georgia.

Yep, I haven't seen any ads in Massachusetts at all. (Television market here actually covers Rhode Island, Mass and New Hampshire for most stations).
I have seen about 38758738 ads for John Sununu though in New Hampshire. Seen more for him than any other race/state/whatever combined.

I've seen maybe 3 or 4 ads in California. One for Obama, two or three for McCain.
But I remember those because they were a surprise. Don't see many of them here. I think the McCain ads aired during the DNC, if that makes any difference.

that's true - the sununu/shaheen thing is out of control up there in NH.
you haven't seen any ads alan? i wouldn't say i ever see them at primetime on major stations at all -- it's always weird times (late at night) on cable-stations (spike tv or whatever). strange

Move to Wisconsin, you will see at least 2 per commercial break.

I haven't seen any Mccain or Obama ads since the primaries and such. I'm a regular primetime watcher (Catch Heroes, House, etc during the week) and don't really DVR too much (only shows that conflict that I also like to watch such as Prison Break).. Most of the political ads have been Sununu.. Primarily all I see these days are stations advertising their new fall lineups coming out.

They are all over the place here in NC, which is a heavily contested state at this point.

We get all the stupid yes on Prop 8 ones here. Because it's bad that men and men can marry and we must go back to traditional values and shit.
I really hope they kill the shit once and for all just and let people that love each other love each other. It's not my business nor do I care if Mike and Ike, or Joan and Jenny get married.

Virginia gets a lot of presidential ads, that's for sure. A lot more than I saw in guaranteed-to-be-red Kansas :)

I saw a handful of McCain ads in the last few weeks, but they appear to have stopped. Like many have noted though, I live in Oregon, and McCain might as well just throw buckets of his money down a well, rather than pay for ads in Oregon.

I'm pretty sick and tired of seeing the political ads in Pennsylvania. A television advertisement has a better chance of getting a man to buy three cases of Tampax than to change someone's mind with one of these bullshit political ads.
In fact, I ordered three cases of Tampax today.

It is interesting. I live in an irrelevant... err... electoral vote holding entity... but live near the border of a swing state. Who I vote for does not matter and that seems unlikely to change for quite a long time. I believe Maryland is the same way. So they're spending a lot of money to reach a lot of important voters, but a lot of eyes are seeing the ads that are a waste of money as well.

I envy you. You can't blink around here without seeing an add. So far 99.9% of them are about why the other guy can't do the job.
Obama actually gained a little ground by having some substance in on ethat I saw but lost it by putting out a message after the Eagles loss to the Bears saying how "They will be fine this year and they are one of his three favorite teams." It just came off too fake (imagine that, a politician being fake). I don't need a politician talking about a football team.

That's perfect politician speak too...who has three favorite teams, in the same sport? That's pushing things in the world of fandom. "You guys are one of my favorite teams in the NFC East!"

I was surprised to see an anti-McCain 527 here in South Carolina the other night. Even if it was out of the Savannah market, Georgia isn't in play either.

Zero since the Olympics but that is not surprising. No ads for the House as Abercrombie and Hirono are locks. The only ad I've seen on TV is Vote No to Con Con.

I was in Springfield a few weeks ago and it was even worse ... during the news and Letterman, there was both an Obama and a McCain spot in every break. During one break, there were four altogether.

Virtually every commercial break there's an Obama or McCain ad here.

Sometimes they put TV shows on between the political ads here in PA.

It's a shame how those television shows pre-empt the ads. ;)

Now that I think about it, I've only seen two ads for state propositions in addition to zero ads for either Presidential candidate.
The two ads for the propositions are run about every commercial break though.

I don't remember seeing presidential ads in any other previous election. However, I'm seeing them all the time for this one. I live in Indiana.
