View Full Version : I have to get this off my chest...

I'm not the kind of person that rushes to judgement. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. On a rare occasion, somebody does something that crosses the line. This week in the forum I witnessed such on occurance.
Darkiller, who has been mostly absent over the past few weeks found it convenient to drop in and shamelessly berate our country, our people and our President. It wasn't reasoned, it wasn't tempered, and it wasn't constructive, it was personal. I, along with many others, took offense at what he had to say.
Despite these comments, I was willing to pass it off as a "heat of the moment" kind of thing, until the true nature of the comments came out in his second post. In the second post it became clear that not only was there no regret for the initial post, but the post was intentionally placed for the purpose of causing anger. The comment showed premeditation and harmful calculation.
I, for one, want nothing to do with such a person. I'm not the kind to pick a fight, and I'm not the kind to resort to name calling. What I will do is walk away and never return. It is a relation that I will no longer acknowledge. Darkiller is now on my ignore list. If you found his statements as offensive as I did, I suggest you do the same. Then if/when he returns he won't find himself at the brunt of criticism, but neither will he have an audience to converse with.

Best idea I have heard since this whole situation started. I am with you.

Blah. We needed another thread to discuss the same topic that another thread already has over 200 responses to? Why?

Like I said, I'm not into name calling. DK's words should speak for themself. The purpose of this thread was not to devolve into critical remarks, or even to get into any debate or discussion at all. Maybe I'm being a little too sensitive. I'm completely open to that possibility, but I took half a day to take everything in before posting. All I'm saying is that if you agree with me, then do what I did and put him on your "Ignore list". If you don't, then don't.

Hmmm. I read the "big thread" and didn't find any comments from DK that should be offensive to anyone other than perhaps George W. Bush and Donald Rumsfeld. I certainly would not get bent out of shape over somebody calling them names, even if DK was a bit caustic with the words he chose. Maybe there were comments in a different thread that have you guys upset?
I am not a Republican (or a Democrat), so maybe that is why I am not so upset about it. Rumsfeld and Bush don't need me to defend their honor on a discussion forum.
If you don't like DK, then ignore him. I'm not sure what the public announcement of it is for, unless you hope others will validate your action by joining in. If you think it is just, you could just quietly do it. Other users here can think for themselves. Announcing it is like you are hoping to convince others to join you, as if they may not do it unless provoked, or your decision was poor if others don't support it as well.
I don't mind what DK has said, but I totally support you ignoring him. You could ignore me too, if you want to. That is certainly what that feature is here for. If it wasn't intended to be used, it wouldn't be there.

DK's comments were not any less reasoned than the incessant French-bashing going on here.

Unless, of course, you'd like to factor reality into the reasoning process.

ACStrider - as you likely know if read any amount of posts here, DK faced much more of those same types of comments we slammed him with, and many of those comments came before any France UN voting. Ugly, nationalism inspired hate. 2 wrongs don't make a right and some of the stuff he said was stupid of course but it still did not approach the ignorance of some other BS that gets posted here regularly with no fallout. It's your prerogative to only listen to the hateful BS you happen to agree with but don't make it seem as if DK stepped over the line when people do the same thing here all the time.
Note, if you post the same indignant "I will ignore you" speech for everyone who steps over the line here you may soon have trouble finding posts to read:).

With the title, I thought this thread was going to show a picture of a man with an anvil on his chest.
Oh well disappointed again - the story of my life !!!!

I didn't find anything DK said to be a personal attack against any american, just the war.
If you want ot ignore him, fine, but going ahead and starting a thread to announce to everyone that you're doing it seems to be every bit as childish as you make out DK's post to be.

A child would not have spoken the words of DK.
DK launched a thread-scud.
I thought the French were supposed to be far more enlightened and superior in intellect and compassion than we neanderthal-americans. Guess I was wrong.
Placing this thread on par with DKs is nonsensical. In addition, I don't believe in the ignore list, as I like to keep abreast of what like-minded and not-so-like-minded individuals think. It is important to listen and understand the thoughts and motives of your opposition in order to engage in intelligent debate at a later point in time.
DK has shown his true colours with his thread. One of the best ways to understand somebody is to see how they act under stress. DK fell apart like the Raider's offense in the superbowl.

As someone with a left-wing, peacenick point of view, I sympathize with DK's feelings in the situation. This board has not been very fun the last few weeks for us commies. That said, he handled it poorly. I just stopped posting for a while without saying anything. Things seem to be a bit cooler now and I'm back. He chose to go off and say a bunch of stupid, over the top things. While he may not deserve it if people ignore him and bash him, he certainly has no one to blame but himself.

astralhaze,
I completely agree with you.
ACStrider,
Did you really need a whole new thread to tell us this? Couldn't you have mentioned it on the other thread?
