This is an unusual one. Normal FG range 52. End of half FG range 57. Hurry up set at 3 minutes.

Maybe we tried for one more play and ran out of time, or is the reason for this more sinister?

That's interesting, so is the time on the play when the play starts or when it ends? If it's when it starts, how did you call a time out with 20 seconds left and yet the next play started with 8 seconds left? Or if it's when the play ends, then you should have had time to bring the FG unit out because the clock would have stopped at the incomplete pass.

I had one in a game in WOOF not too long ago where we ran a play instead of kick the FG, but it looked like we had time to try one shot at the endzone. Of course we took the sack and time ran out, but that seemed fairly reasonable to me. Not that the QB took the sack, but that we took a crack at it and time ran out because of the sack. The QB took a reaming for the sack and was lucky he pulled the game out in the end.

20 seconds is actually when he took the 2nd to last snap - a 12 yard completion. It's a little FOF quirk that a timeout called is listed when the previous snap started rather than what it should be, which is how much time is left.

I'm starting to see quite a few cases where a team fails to go for the FG on the last play of a half, despite being in FG range.

Maybe it's time to start tracking them closely and reporting them here.

Here's the latest one I saw, from my last CFL game between my Detroit Vampires and Durham.

Detroit is up 7-0, Durham is driving with only 2 minutes remaining:

This is Taco's team, so I don't know what his settings are, but at this stage of the game, down 7 with only 4 seconds left on the clock, it would make sense to take the FG, no?

Yes, I couldn't believe that we didn't take the FG here. :banghead:

It's interesting - I actually had just the opposite happen in my CFL game this week. We kicked the FG early, and I would've liked to run another play or two.

1-10-SEA31 (2Q: 00:50) Austin Philyaw ran around left end for 17 yards. Tackled by S Richie Huntley, assisted by CB Thomas Hayes. Key block delivered by Harvey Colton.
(2Q: 00:50) Boise called a time out.

1-10-SEA14 (2Q: 00:43) Austin Philyaw ran around right end for 5 yards. Tackled by S Kent Galloway, assisted by ILB Rod Sawyer. Key block delivered by Nolan Armagost.
(2Q: 00:43) Boise called a time out.

2-5-SEA09 (2Q: 00:31) Albert Malley attempted a 26 yard field goal and succeeded. Boise 17, Seattle 10

(2Q: 00:26) Steve Gorton kicked off 67 yards from the BOI30. Wes Granata returned the ball 19 yards to the SEA22. Tackled by J.C. Escamilla.

Ok here's another one - from WOOF this time. Unless the play managed to take all 36 seconds, we should've used one of our 3 timeouts. If we're content to run out the half, we definitely shouldn't be throwing bombs.

1-10-MEX20 (2Q: 00:36) Posh Beckles pass completed to WR Winston Bunch for 48 yards. Tackled by S Sean Tewkesbury. The quarterback threw away from the double coverage.

Start of third quarter.

another one, happened to my team this time. Also in WOOF.

1-10-TOL24 (2Q: 00:01) Sam Baker pass fell incomplete, intended for FB Brian Dunn. DT Nicky Estell hurried the quarterback into a bad throw. The quarterback threw away from the double coverage.
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

We were down by 7. No clue why we wouln't take the 3 points here.

Perhaps the coach was thinking it was the end of the 4th quarter and thus accordingly went for it?

I suspect MIJB is right, perhaps when Jim fixed the end of "game" logic it got mixed up with the end of 1st half logic?

Has anyone reported this to support? If it's something systemic like that and not just a bad dice roll (and it appears you guys are saying it's the former), it should be formally reported to support AT solecismic DOT com.

Happened in OSFL against me. Utah was down 14-7 going into the half. He had the ball on my 19 and called time out with 4 seconds left. It was 1st and 10 at my 19 with 4 seconds left. He ran a play as opposed to kicking the FG.
