High Heat 2004

Has anyone played it yet? Any thoughts? I am torn between getting this one or getting MVP Baseball (formerly Triple Play), which is due out on thursday.

High Heat is a great sim with an aging engine and a new coat of dull paint. I liked it for the minor leagues as well as believeable stats. Since I have ootp5, I took it back for MVP and I'm quite surprised at how much fun I've had with it on my ps2. It does lack depth in franchise mode, but the batting/pitcher interface is the best I've seen thus far. The replays are like watching a game on TV, the fielding is fun, and NO sliders to screw around with.

I've read the PC version is visually stunning, along with the same 'fun factor' as the console versions.

If you want a deep franchise mode, go with HH, but at least check out MVP.... it's NOT Triple play.

I've heard that in MVP you can throw a strike any time you want and that the CPU never swings at a ball. Any truth to that?

If you want to get a console baseball game, World Series Baseball 2K3 is probably the one you'll want to pick up.

I've played several games and it's very addictive. Doesn't feel quite as real as High Heat, but seems more fun to play. And behind the game there's a far deeper franchise mode than you'd realize. Lots of hidden screens that give you tons of options that approach near-OOTP5 levels. Fun stuff!

I have High Heat for the PC and it looks FAR better than last year's version. Only problem is the interface is absolutely horrible, it takes 18,000 clicks to get anywhere, the info screens barely show any info on them (you have to scroll to get more than 3 stats on the screen --- okay I'm exagerrating, but not by much).

So overall World Series gets my nod.

Nope, untrue. You have to work the count, just like real baseball. I play on the all-star level and usually strikeout 5-8 with my top pitchers and less with mediocre pitchers.

The game is simple to play, difficult to master. When I went up against Randy Johnson, it felt like Randy Johnson. You don't have the time to react like you do when someone like Glavine is on the mound.

Again, the franchise mode is bare bones, but I have ootp5 for my in-depth cravings. The game is just fun to play.

The biggest thing for me is NO sliders to spend hours on tweaking to get believeable stats. Just read some threads at Op Sports and see people that are spending countless hours tweaking sliders for WSB. I don't want to spend most of my time messing with sliders, starting careers over and over until the game feels right. Your mileage may vary.
