This just in...
Ron Prince has 'resigned' as head coach of K-State.
Rumors ar running rampant; everything from Fred Bramlidge being so pissed he fronted the money for a buyout, to Brent Venables being in Manhattan for non-football things and was spotted by someone in the AD dept, to Gary Patterson being considered for the Tennessee job and the Cats wanting to jump the gun for him.

2.5 years and out for Prince. That seems particularly short for a place like KSU, but I guess if there's more to the story, it could make sense.

How old is William Snyder nowadays? He already has walked on water in Manhattan, Kansas once.
BTW, it could be that the two "Best" teams in the country meet up this year come Bowl Season (hooray)... but not necessarily in the Big Game.... Florida v. USC, imo of course.

Not terribly happy about the Prince development. Mizzou will likely still beat them pretty handily on Senior Day, but we don't need an unmotivated team to have any extra motivation.

I remember when I was at RU and we had a real rivalry with Syracuse. Was fun getting to watch Donovan McNabb throw to Marvin Harrison and torch us 10 games a game. Good old days. I'm thinking Saturday's game may end up being 9-6 or something.

Utah just took a 14-10 lead over TCU with 47 seconds left in the game.
It's been a long time since I've seen a team self-destruct as many times as TCU has in this game. They missed two chip shot field goals; twice they took 3rd down sacks in the red zone that knocked them out of field goal range; and their QB, Dalton, had a wide open receiver for a TD and he threw a horrible pass that was caught out of bounds.
timmynausea
11-06-2008, 10:27 PM
I couldn't believe those sacks the TCU QB took. Just falling down would've been one thing, but he ran 10-15 yards back before he got taken down on at least one that knocked them out of FG range.
The mistakes made it an exciting game, though.

Meanwhile VaTech beats Maryland 23-13 in Blacksburg.
ACC standings are just nuts.
Atlantic Division has 3 teams at 3-2, two more teams at 2-3.
Coastal Division has 1 team 4-2, three teams 3-2, another team 2-2.
Only Duke & NC State are completely out of the pack at this point.

This actually has a pretty good chance of happening. Its unlikely that 2 of TT, Bama, and PSU all finish out unbeaten, and Utah probably won't lose again. I think most likely unbeatens are Penn State, Utah, and Ball State. In that case, how could PSU vs. Utah NOT be the championship game?

In that case, how could PSU vs. Utah NOT be the championship game?
Because I think a lot of voters would have a real hard time putting Utah over a possible one loss Florida, or a one loss Big 12 team. Utah only has one more game of any real cred. to add to their resume and were 8th in the BCS before this week. They will have beaten no top 10 teams. TT, OU, and Texas are all higher ranked and one of them will very likely win the Big 12 while finishing with wins against top 10 teams. Beating the 12th raked team by 3 at home isn't exactly something you want base being the highlight to your case to be in the title game.

Depending on how it all breaks down, I could see myself voting Utah behind some 1 loss teams. I watched their game the other night and they should've lost to TCU. I watched part of the Michigan game, and they weren't too impressive there either considering how bad Michigan has been this year.

My son had been worried about this all week. Comcast has said one thing, while the paper said another - plus earlier, the paper had one on TV and one on radio. Right now, he's believing the paper that we will get the USC game and that will make him very happy (even though he has been talking more about the Tech/OSU game).

UNC still up 7-0 middle of Q2. Tech finally got a pretty good drive but another missed FG (now 8-14 for the year) leaves them scoreless. One thing that's pretty clear to me that has to be addressed for next season is that this offense needs the support of a legit solid D1 kicker, right now that's one of several things the Jackets don't have.

Hahaha Syracuse kicker lines up for a very makeable 42 yard FG (he's pretty good) with a few seconds left in the 1st half. Schiano decides to call a late timeout just as the ball is snapped, and the kick is blocked.
With one timeout still remaining, Schiano does it again...as the kicker pulls the kick wide.
On his 3rd try, and with no timeouts to worry about...he pulls it wide again.
Greg, you dodged three bullets, please don't ever try for a 4th.

11-08-2008, 01:47 PM
Blocked punt leads to a Kentucky score, 24-21 UK over UGA getting late in the 3rd.
GT puts a hobbling Nesbitt back in, holding call wipes out a good play, they go fairly meekly after that. 6:30 left to play 21-0 Carolina.
And in Knoxville for homecoming, UT threatening against the vaunted Wyoming defense, 1st & goal but still trailing 13-0 at the moment.
edit to add: Make that 28-24 UGA, Stafford responds going 4/4 on the drive, Moreno runs 20 for the go-ahead score.
double edit: Dwyer breaks a long one to avoid the shutout, after recovering the onside kick UNC answers with a 31 yd TD pass on 4th & 1, now 28-7 UNC with 4 minutes left in Chapel Hill. And UT avoids the shutout, pulling within 13-7 of Wyoming. Of course, appropriately after recovering a fumble around midfield the Vols go three and out.

Well, there almost was a shutout ;)
Michigan played a full four quarters finally. The potential is there. Replace Sheridan (who did play well) with what Foricer or Beaver could be, and it can be a very fun future in Ann Arbor.
If the D can play this inspired, and the offense just keep the chains moving, I think they can knock off Northwestern, and give OSU a game for a little while.

UK takes advantage of a short punt, 3 plays later it's 31-28 Wildcats over UGA in the opening minute of the 4th quarter.

11-08-2008, 02:06 PM
2 plays, 60 yards, Moreno 18 yd TD run puts UGA back in front of UK 35-31.
JonInMiddleGA
11-08-2008, 02:10 PM
And Kentucky gets a 95 yr KOR to set up 1st & goal at about the UGA 5.
edit to add: Randall Cobb gets his third rushing TD of the day on 3rd & inches, it's 38-35 Kentucky with 12:15 left.
JonInMiddleGA
11-08-2008, 02:28 PM

11-08-2008, 02:45 PM
Kentucky runs a short KO back to about their own 38, 1:46 left for Cobb to pull off the upset.
JonInMiddleGA
11-08-2008, 02:46 PM
Tennessee turns it over on downs with 1:17 left in Knoxville. They had reached the 39 but followed that with a sack & three straight incompletions.
JonInMiddleGA
11-08-2008, 02:47 PM
Wide open receiver for Kentucky gains 29, 1st down at the Georgia 35, 1:30 left. Inside handoff to Dixon good for a couple of yards, timeout UK (now 1 remaining), 1:27 left.
edit to add: Complete to the 26, now 3rd & a long 1/short 2. clock down to a minute. Incomplete & almost intercepted on 3rd down. Now 4th & short.
edit two: Cobb under pressure, throws short & incomplete ... FLAG !!! face mask on the defense (caught Cobb by the headgear). 1st down 'Cats
And Cobb underthrows on 1st down inside the 20, huge DL leaps in the air & intercepts. Game over.

Not that anyone here but Bug and I care, but watching the UCLA-Oregon Satte game, I just have to know what Craft has on Neuheisel. Why is this guy still on the field? He is awful, just awful. He is worse than Rashaan was last year. He's almost as bad as walkon Bethel-McLeod, who was forced into action against Notre Dame last year. And B-M is the worst QB I have ever seen on a competitive playing field above HS football.
I just don't understand why UCLA keeps marching Craft out there. We have options. Not great options, but they can't be worse than this. Get him off the field. For the sake of all UCLA fans, please, dear God, take him off the damn field.

I had watched just about every minute of Illinois football this season, right up to halftime of this game. I'm now done for the remainder of the season, will pick them up against for the opening kickoff of next season.
The Illini have been just a maddening team this year. At the start of the year the D and special teams were atrocious, but as they have marginally improved Juice Williams has started turning the ball over at an alarming rate.
This was just an idiotic game to schedule, FWIW. Like they really needed a near-road game against a decent mid-major team the week between playing Iowa and Ohio State. It was a near-lock that this team would not be mature enough to take care of business today.

If USC can't make it to the Title game (and I doubt they can, too many things still need to happen), I hope this Texas Tech team makes it.

TTech's Harrell is 39 for 49, 440 yards and 6 TDs. Wow.

Sounds like somebody needs to adjust the sliders a little.

Same for me and Ohio State. This TT team is a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

Texas Tech comes to Norman in two weeks, after bye weeks for both teams. Both teams will be ranked in the top five.
This is a revenge game for OU, and has special significance for Sam Bradford and Demarco Murray. Bradford was knocked out of the game in the first quarter last year with a concussion while trying to make a tackle on a fumble return. Murray broke his kneecap trying to recover an onside kick at the end of the game.

It's embarassing to see the difference between the Big 12 QBs and the ones in the Big 10 and Big East.

Nice long, clock-eating drive for USC. Their defense is incredible.
I'm thinking (snarkingly) that TxTech can beat some NFL teams.

Take Stafford and Tebow out of the discussion and you can really just expand that to the entire BCS.

The title game is really down to the Big 12 champ, the SEC champ, or USC. With Michigan spanking Minnesota, Western Michigan beating Illinois, and Iowa beating PSU, it's a rough day for the Big Ten. I think secretly the Rose Bowl is happy to know that they avoided a possible OSU/USC game.

John Parker Wilson would not start for any Big XII south team, and that includes Baylor and Texas A&M.

Yes my plan worked, now OU has a much better chance of winning it all. I look forward to the TT game. Payback is a bitch.
Ping: JohnInMiddleGA. This isn't a play by play thread.
I tell ya what, I know yer just messing with him and don't mean anything by it (this being a non-political thread and all), but I say the more the better of JiMG's coverage, and others like it.
I work most Saturdays, and actually get a lot of enjoyment out of coming home around 1am and reading y'all's reactions as things unfold on gameday.
So anyway, just sayin I appreciate the contributions in this thread each week, guys, keep it up!

Ah well. Better for PSU to lose by one point now, then win out and get throttled in the NC Championship game. Hopefully, they'll be able to win their last two and win the Big Ten championship and get to the Rose Bowl.
Unless Harrell starts having sex with Michael Crabtree on live TV, I'm pretty sure he's going to win the Heisman

I hope that Texas Blech loses every single one of the rest of their games and ends the season out of the top 25...

I catch up what I wasn't able to watch on the weekends by reading this thread. I only wish people would update the scores and what actually happened more on here. Sometimes it is like deciphering a code to figure out what people are talking about.

Maybe my recollection meter is busted but I'd swear that used to be a lot more common than it is now. Not sure whether participation has faded a little because of the down years for certain teams or what.
I can certainly see the argument that the majority of posters can do the same thing I spend most Saturday afternoons doing -- clicking from game to game on espn.com or cbssportsline.com while watching another game (or 2 or 3) -- but I've also seen enough people comment about either being annoyed by those sites or whatever the reason that I believe there's some decent conversation starter/fodder in posting them for those who don't. I know I've had numerous occasions where someone mentioned a game that I wasn't particularly following myself that I ended up watching the end/following the end online/following the outcome in the threads here.

I miss it as well. I was one of the commentors last season, but with the 9 month old, I don't watch live games in front of the computer anymore.

Jon, but the problem in the past was that we got these immature fanatics spewing all over such threads. People like you, VV, EF27 and others give the information straight and that's more fun to follow.
I do following the games on GameCenter but usually there is a 2-minute pause before something big is put in. That's when I come here to check to see what it was and then back to GameCenter to see the details.

Congrats to Iowa...they played a good game. Penn State didn't deserve to win with the effort and gameplan they had.

Ridiculous.
Obviously the BCS has USC higher, but the actual computers having UGA ahead basically means as long as you lose vs good teams, it's better then beating marginal teams.

Blarg that was ugly. The line was brutal against Michigan, their youth and lack of size finally caught up ot them and hurt them. With being unable to establish a running game or give Weber much time it was clear they wouldn't be able to do much once Decker was out. I can't wait until they get in the larger O-line they're looking for in this offense.

Would love to see Texas Tech beat OU and face MU in the B12 Championship. That would be a track meet of epic proportions.
