GOP Nominee in 2012 Voting Thread--VOTE FOR THREE

Taking the names thrown out in the other thread, and adding a few myself, here it is. Vote for your top three candidates. If anyone remembers, we can come back in three years and see who was right.

I think that Jindal will wait until 2016. Having watched him after Gustav, I can say that he exudes . . . leaderliness. I think that he will be a force in GOP politics in the future, but that he is also smart enough to wait his turn. This, of course, also assumes on my part that Obama will be a strong candidate in 2012.

I say watch out for Newt Gingrich. I think that he wants to run for President, can get the support of the base, and could present an intellectual side for the GOP that might appeal to moderates and educated conservatives. I wouldn't bet my house on it happening, but I think that 2012 will be a strange election for the GOP, and I'm willing to give him one of my three votes.

Either Romney, Jindal, or Crist is my answer. Jindal may decide to run if Obama can't get the country out of the economic problems we are in.

I've heard Gingrich mentioned quite a few times post election. Dennis Miller said he used to be a Gingrich hater, but as he spoke with him and got to know him, he said Gringrich is one of the most intelligent politicians he has ever met, not to mention that he churns out books like baby rabbits.

Flipping through C-Span years ago, I caught him giving an academic lecture on the Linclon Douglas debates and was amazed both by his intellect and by his clear passion for his subject matter.

I went with Palin, Huckabee and Perry on the basis that since a) the country should be better off by the time the next cycle starts and b) Obama's campaign organization will still be formidable, I'm going to assume most of the more tactical/circumspect candidates will take a pass and wait for 2016.

Gingrich ended up my representative for a brief time after Georgia redrew districts in the early 1990s. You are right, he is a very intelligent politician, and he has perhaps one of the better grasps of political history of any politician that I have listened to.

He also is a grade A slimeball that takes being a sleeze even beyond the level of Gore. Obviously a good number of politicians are slimy, but there is slime.. and then there is this level of slime.

Oh good lord, not Rick Perry. I live in Texas. I'm am very conservative, and as such vote Republican most of the time. I voted 3rd party in the last gubernatorial elections here because Perry is the biggest "empty suit" politician ever. Please please no, unless there needs to be a sacrificial lamb offered up in 2012 because Obama is the second coming of JFK or somesuch.

If that is, in fact, the pool of candidates from whom the nominee is eventually chosen, my probability of voting Republican in 2012 is somewhere around that of Hayden Panettiere showing up at my front door between now and then.
