Not sure who uses gmail here, but the Tree theme is super cool. You enter your city and it changes the page based on the current temperature...
So I was wondering if there is something like this for a desktop? The window is behind me (and I'm in a cube), so I'd like a "fake" window in front... ;) Any thing like this out there?

that's pretty cool - i was wondering if the themes would end up being neat or just being a waste

I like them. It's better than the graphical change stupid hotmail made.

be cooler if you could minimize your inbox so you could see more of the picture (or am i just not knowing how to do that?)

In settings set it to 25 conversations per page. I believe that is the "default" setting for the themes. I just switched to planets today from Cold shower.

I'm using the "sea" theme that changes colors based on the time of day. I was using the Shiny theme, but the read and unread message colors are too similar on it.

Interesting, I just might start using GMail to manage all of my webmail accounts...it looks pretty slick.
Anybody playing with any of the "Labs" features? If so, anybody have any suggestions for which ones to use/play with?

Got a link for it? I did a quick search and no go.

The only one I really use is buddy icons in chat

Superstars - more icons
Pictures in Chat
Fixed width font
Advanced IMAP - great if you check your mail on iPhone because they crash if you have too many folders
Default Reply to All
Quote selected text - too used to doing this in old email clients that I need it now
Navbar drag and drop - you can move you sidebar stuff around
Forgotten attachment - if it thinks you were supposed to attach something it will remind you
Custom Label Colors - makes things easier to see
Mark as Read Button - adds ease of use
Google Calendar - calendar right on the gmail screen, great if you use gcal

There are some really useful "Labs" features and some pretty pointless ones. The fact that you can add your gCal and RTM accounts to your inbox is pretty cool, though.

I can't link to it. It's just under Settings->Themes... near the bottom. Maybe you're thinking of gchat?

I was using planets, but I'm going to have to check out Tree. that sounds damn nifty.

Dola,
The planets one changes, too. It went from Saturn or Jupiter last night/this morning to...Mars?

I don't think Tree works for me. It just shows a green, springtime tree and a daylight setting, even when I changed my Gmail settings to reflect my new zip code.

This thing would be much better if it actually, you know, worked.
I have put in multiple cities on the East Coast and it changes throughout the day, but not accurately. For instance at 5:00 AM Washington, DC and Boston are pure blue sky.
If they can't get the time of day right why should I think the weather would be right?

I forgot about gcal and rtm, I use those too. :)
As for Tree: seems to work for me. Time of day may not quite work, but rain and snow have both been accurate.

It's sunny and 34 in Richmond, VA yet themes looks like it's the most overcast day you've ever seen.

Tree gets the weather right for me, but daylight doesn't work.
