UGA will honor legendary announcer Larry Munson in a ceremony between the first & second quarter on Saturday. They opted to do the recognition at that point because one of the few things Munson has never had a chance to do is be down on the field when the stadium was packed.

I'm afraid that will cause things to be more rushed than they should be but I like the notion of trying to do something that would be different for him.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Two Iowa football fans were caught having sex in a bathroom stall at the Metrodome during Saturday’s Minnesota-Iowa game, KMSP-TV reports.

According to a police report, a Metrodome security officer saw two people having sex in a handicapped stall after noticing two sets of feet with underwear dropped to the ground.

A group of 15 onlookers were gawking at the scene by the time officers broke the couple up and wrote them misdemeanor citations.

According to the Minneapolis Fox affiliate, the woman, 38, was turned over to her husband. The man, 26, was turned over to his girlfriend.

Supposedly if the Miners win tomorrow against ECU they'll be extended an offer to the Hawaii Bowl and face our former WAC foe Rainbow Warriors. I would get excited thinking that this would motivate the Miners to play their best, but a similar deal was in place two years ago with the FW Bowl and we laid an egg against, I believe, Memphis.

You know there are way, way too many bowls when the 80th ranked team would be considered a bowl offer. :(

I am in favor of rewarding excellence and the very good, not mediocracy. A team can be in second-to-last place in their conference, be 5-6, ranked among the bottom third of teams and not having beaten anyone with a winning record and yet still can possibly rewarded with a post-season bowl game. (Not referring to UTEP, just speaking generally). The only reason I would be in favor of a playoffs if it would reduce the number of teams playing in the post-season.

Logan

I've never understood this argument. It's as if an extra football game in mid-December is a bad thing.

Not to mention that it allows teams at worst an extra couple weeks of practice. Probably not the same for when teams are preparing for high profile bowls, but those second-tier bowl teams use that time to get second-stringers first team reps, and to see how the team will start to look when the seniors are gone.

Hell, Rutgers played in the International Bowl last year, which was held AFTER a couple BCS games, somewhere around January 5th, and it meant 5 more weeks of practice and an additional 2 weeks compared to if they played in a similar Christmas time bowl. Come to think of it, with our start this year, maybe that extra practice was a bad thing :).

I can't believe an offense that returned Pat White, Noel Devine, and the entire starting line from the Fiesta Bowl win turned into a big turd in just one season under Bill Stewart's watch. Um, he wasn't that far off. Better chance of that than a hail mary.

I am kind of glad we lost, this should force Les Miles hand in firing our inept defensive coaches. But the holding penalty on the first down run(he was engaged inside the shoulders) and the pass interference that negated the INT (the defender has the right to take up space, the same play wasn't called against Arkansas and LSU later on) were BS calls that cost LSU the game nearly as much as bad coaching.

Of course you're on the short list about that, particularly when it comes to the casual viewers that make up a significant portion of the bowl season viewing audience. Most of those would typically rather watch someone they've, you know, actually heard of. Heck, even the usually whiny announcers tonight admitted they understood why tOSU was being treated as pretty much a foregone conclusion over Boise, which shocked the hell out of me.

And I say all of that having no desire myself to see Ohio State either.

This has been the most disappointing sports season, for one of my teams, of my life.

This one got me thinking about some disappointing WVU seasons. I'll say:

1995 - 5-6 even though we had All American CB Aaron Beasley plus the rest of the guys that would lead the country in just about every defensive statistic in 1996.

1998 - 8-4 with a bowl loss despite several guys that went on to have pretty good success in the NFL like: Marc Bulger, Jerry Porter, John Thornton, Tony Becht, Barrett Green, Charles Fisher and Amos Zereoue. The entire offensive line had multiple years of starting experience and the WR corps was very good with David Saunders, Shawn Foreman, and Khori Ivy.

2004 - Preseason top 10 with talent like Pacman and Chris Henry. Another 8 win season with a bowl loss. Obviously discipline was a problem.

I guess I'll have to see how 2008 finishes out, but considering the circumstances I'd put it just behind those for now.

From an outsider's perspective that hasn't seen GT play all year, seems like this offense could be a monster with a QB that can run and pass a bit.

Question is, are you ever going to get a guy like that to come and play in a system where he throws the ball 75% less than a pro style offense? Do Tech have anyone recruited?

I was thinking that but ... this is an offense designed in a way that can be perfect for the two-point conversion. Since we had just used one of the better plays for that situation we were left with maybe a lesser alternative for the play call. Still, I have to think we should make that work more often than not.

JonInMiddleGA
11-29-2008, 12:15 PM
Tackling in the secondary, it's essential.

Still, you take your chances with Stafford beating you instead of Moreno. If he can do it (and they continue to give him time to throw) then you tip your hat to 'em and deal with it.

There's one of those plays that really leaves me scratching my head sometimes. Never mind the penetration, that seems almost incidental when it happens. You are right on that. Moreno can kill ya a lot faster/better than Stafford, but he is also easier to eliminate. Not because of him, but the O-line is not good enough to give him a sliver of room if a defense plays the run right. You can't over-pursue, but make sure you meet Moreno with two defenders, not one.

Makes me go back to comment someone made in a ealrier thread about Moreno not being a "true" NFL running back. IMHO, he is going to be a beast at the next level, whereas Stafford has about a 60% chance of being a complete bust, and about a 90% chance of at least being a under-performer. Moreno is not just a little quick guy. He can power-back and bludgeon you to death, or he can be a quick-back and kill you with speed. He's a good pass blocker, and very unselfish. The kid is special.

I'd say he's a 20 carry back, not a 25-30 carry back. But how many of the latter are there anymore?
As you mentioned, he does seem like a guy who gets dinged & nicked but like GD pointed out he doesn't end up out completely.

You'll find Richt rarely lets a guy carry more than 20 carries a game unless he has a depth problem. He rotates three running backs almost constantly. I think he has had knicks and dings, but he has never missed significant time in any game that I can think of.

JonInMiddleGA
11-29-2008, 12:39 PM
And Georgia has now scored as many points in the first half as GT has allowed in a game all year.

If we can't get pressure rushing four, it could get a lot worse when we bring five. One of the few bright spots I can find at the moment is that, for the first time in years, I don't worry that the coaching will make things any worse in the second half.

GrantDawg
11-29-2008, 12:43 PM
Looking back at his game logs, he has only been limited in carries in blow-outs, though, now I do remember that he was injured early in the Alabama game. But that was the only game that he missed significant snaps due to injury his entire career. When Brown went down last season, and Lumpkin was also out, he averaged 27+ carries a game.

ISiddiqui
11-29-2008, 12:45 PM
I'd say he's a 20 carry back, not a 25-30 carry back. But how many of the latter are there anymore?

Exactly. The trend in the NFL seems to be more one guy with 20 carries and the backup with 10. A more split workload to prevent the main guy from getting totally run down.

i don't like the use of the 2nd timeout there for Tech - if you were just trying to draw them offsides and are now going to kick, just back up 5 yards. Its still less than 30

It sucks, but that's what you have to resort to when your kicker is just 10/17 on the year. Maybe the number one thing we need to address in recruiting for next year (along with replacing losses).

Terps @ BC getting ready to start. BC's starting QB is out, but there's nothing in this really for the Terps. Last week's loss to FSU sealed our place out of the ACC title match. Kind of annoying, too, as some of the players involved in that fight that had them suspsended for FSU - BC have now been charged, if they'd have been out against us, maybe we'd have had a chance. There hasn't been a point this year when either Texas or OU have not looked the part of a conference champ, even when they've lost. Neither have sleepwalked through a game all year. Tech is sleepwalking through this one.

I agree with you, but it's going to be common perception if Tech wins and further allow the illogical Texas over OU argument based on head to head. It's almost ironic that OU essentially eliminated Tech from the discussion based on the blowout, and all the talking heads seem to have forgotten that Texas lost to Tech.

Ah... Doesn't matter too much, I suppose. OU needs to take care of business tonight and if they do, either way they're in a BCS bowl.

Up the middle, up the middle, up the middle, up the middle? Is this like the Bears gameplan from the mid 90s?

BC was just grinding it out, and it was working :)

Pick Six, Ball game, Sorry Fla State, NO ACC CHAMPIONSHIP FOR YOU! :D

(And Believe it or not, Sack Attack was FINALLY wrong with one of his nostradamus predictions) :D

Seriously? "Doesn't look the part"? Is that what we're using to figure this out now?

SI

I don't disagree with you SI. It's just the nature of the beast we're working with. OU looked the part last week so they jump ahead of Texas. Fair? No. Reality? Apparently so. How teams look shouldn't matter, but the voters seem to believe otherwise.

Well, onto Oregon St/Oregon on VS :)

And 'Bama pounds out another run of the mill slowly suffocating win against Auburn. 'Bama went from a win it early and cruise team to one that slowly gets better and better as the game wears on.

Okay well I guess I gotta root for the Ducks. I'd much rather see a PSU/USC Rose Bowl than a rematch of a earlier game where it really would be a no win situation for Penn State.

Yeah, you gotta figure the Rose Bowl is hoping for that one, too.

I know that I am late in posting this, but great win for Tech over the Georgia mechanics school! I flew back in town just in time to watch it on CBS, and had almost lost all hope at one point in the game. Great to see them come from behind to win.

I don't care how ugly the win looks, any win over UGA is a good win!

Yup. Once the possibility arose for Tech to win the ACC Coastal, it was disappointing to fall short. Its been a thrilling season, no matter how these last two games end up.

I personally have been on a high since the Florida St win. Everything since is just gravy with a nice exclamation point with today's win.

I am pretty pumped about next year already, and I haven't been this way since uhh.. 1990.

Absolutely.

A little ironic that PSU is rooting for the team that we played the last time we went to the Rose Bowl. :)

Go Ducks!

For those watching the UT-UK game it seems worth noting that, as far as I can recall, they did not use the G-gun formation this season until after the firing was announced. If they had ... well, anything would have helped this offense for most of the season.
