What is the preferred method to sim through seasons and off-seasons to provide some backstory for a league?

I usually pick the team I want to play on league creation, turn manager firing off, then set everything to CPU control in global settings and tell the thing to sim everything in every stage (have scout finish draft, have the cpu pick up coaches for me). This method leads to a relatively terrible team, though. I would much prefer if there were some way to hand the team over to a CPU GM, basically, so that it will be run normally.

I think the way you do it is pretty much the way to do it. You could try meddling with personnel decisions for your selected team but your approach seems pretty sound.

You may at the very least want to handle the drafting yourself, you don't have to go into too much depth but the computer is terrible at drafting so maybe just spend a minute for the first two picks and make sure you're getting some kind of quality players.

Axafie Mouse Recorder.

Record a macro that does all the clicks for a season, then let it run 100 times.

Takes a lot of tweaking, but once you get it working, you can run as much history as you would like. I ran a 300 year history once, and while the geographical numbers became nonsensical (cities with 100 million people, etc.) and if I recall the tickets have a max amount, so make sure you run with 0 salary cap or else all teams will be in major loss positions.
