Just for a little fun, if you could select the background and skills of your ideal candidate for U.S. President, what would you choose? What type of education? Would political experience be a must? Do you care about his or her family, race, religion, etc?
My picks:
4 years experience in the military, preferably as infantry or anything else that allowed him to see the carnage of war
Experience living in a foreign country, preferably one of the poorer countries, and I'd rather have him live there for business reasons rather than because he's in the service
A bachelor's of science in biology, chemistry, physics, etc., basically an understanding of science
A law degree from a distinguished university, they're tough to get, proves he's a highly intelligent man and it shows the President's appreciation for logic
Elected government experience over a period of at least ten years and preferably a leadership position that required him to play politics on a grandscale
Strong speechmaking skills, should be on par with Reagan or Clinton and able to give speeches that inspire the nation
High IQ, a brilliant person
Preferably under the age of 50 just because there have been so many changes in America over the last few decades I'm afraid what someone thinks behind closed doors when they were able to make it in power circles during a time when segregation was accepted
Has kids, marital status doesn't matter, but I think having children helps someone appreciate a lot of things they never realized
Religion isn't important but it would be nice to have a Muslim president just to shut up some of the extremists in the Middle East
In general, a quality person, I want someone with a good heart
OR
Clinton's brain
Bush Sr.'s experience
Reagan's oratory skills
Jimmy Carter's heart
Richard Nixon's foreign diplomacy skills
LBJ's political genius
JFK's charisma
and
Eisenhower's military savvy
:D
