NeoGAF - View Single Post - Fail & More Fail: GAF Tells REAL Stupid Owner Stories. (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=14154582&postcount=1)

I told her that all she needed to do was put in her credit card when prompted on the Shop Channel, and get the amount of points she wanted. I also told her what WiiSpeak is, and how to connect her Wii to the internet via an ethernet connection.

Anywho, I got a call today from the mom telling me that the Wii is not working. I asked what was wrong and you won't believe it.........

SHE PHYSICALLY PUT 3 CREDIT CARDS INTO THE DISC SLOT.
HOW STUPID DO YOU HAVE TO BE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

The woman is stupid as heck.

That said, did the guy word for word say "put in her credit card"? Not "enter her credit card number" or "type in her credit card number"? Because if he did the former, he's a stupid ass, too. Big difference between the first (which she apparently took literally), and the more correct and clear latter two.

I don't think saying "put in your credit card" is stupid ass. It's a common saying for enter in your credit cared number.

She will get it replaced if he used the wording put your credit card in. That's terrible wording on his part if that's how he said it.

anyone who has ever worked in tech support and has someone call and say they can't find the "any" key realizes there are alot of people out there who aren't very bright.

But whatever he said, what makes the woman put in that THIRD credit card? "I know the first two got stuck in there, but maybe THIS ONE will do the trick..."

I love how she wants him to pay for it.

This is why I don't help people.

He could offer his credit card...

No, seriously, you're both wrong. That's just trying to make excuses for the person who is really that stupid and shouldn't be owning a Wii, much less a credit card. Next, she's going to be one of the people who throws the wiimote through her tv.

You guys are assuming quite a bit about the general public when it comes to video games, etc. because of your knowledge. If you take a random person, with no video game experience, and they're told to put a credit card in, that's EXACTLY what they're going to do. Now why she put in 2 more, I'll grant you is stupid. However, if this goes to court, she would win the case.

Even though it was her neighbor, not a Nintendo employee? She asked for his advice

Court against who? Some random kid she asked for help? I'm not even sure how that would go to court and certainly don't see how she could win any settlement.

I think the problem is we're expecting too much common sense from the general public.

I must have misread the article as I had it in my mind that she had asked an employee of somewhere to help. If it was just some random person then you guys are right and nothing will happen.

I know, I'm splitting hairs and playing a little devil's advocate, particularly with the less serious posts :) but let's look at this for a second.

We're all in agreement that she's dumber than a post, right? Yet here we are trying to blame someone else for her doing stupid because she's dumber than a post.

I mean, she's used a credit card before, I presume, since she has 3. And if that's the case, then she should know how to use it. It's like blaming Amazon when someone breaks their disk drive, trying to force a credit card in it because it says "enter a credit card" rather than "enter a credit card number in the blank below".

We all know what was meant and yet here we are trying to blame someone else for her being really, really stupid.

100% correct. Not everyone is familiar with these things. If I knew absolutely nothing about a game console and someone told me I could buy games through one with a credit card...well, it's not a huge stretch to get to where she got.

In fact, wouldn't a card swipe be more convenient than having to use a controller to put in a ccard number?

I don't know. Even if I've never seen a Wii before and even if I thought it could accept credit cards, I would never put my card in a slot that did not seem designed to fit credit cards. I mean, if I was dumb enough to think the Wii could accept the card, then I'd probably be asking the guy where is the slot the card should go in.

Technology is way too accessible. Let's go back to the days when you had to know something about the thing you're using. I don't like mice. I want a command line. Double-click my ass!
