Is there a multiplayer primer that goes into a bit more detail than the players guide on how a typical league works.

I am thinking of joining a multiplayer league, but I have a few questions:

In leagues where there is an interim export - what is the purpose?
Will a universe of custom cities/nicknames mess up my SP universe?

I probably have other questions as well, but can't think of them off the top of my head. Thanks in advance for the info.

I don't think there is anything out there but all leagues have their own quirks.

For instance, you'll have some leagues that only sim once a week to allow for more user participation regarding articles, etc but those leagues tend to be too slow and there's not a lot of action in their respective forums. Others go in the opposite direction, with three gameday sims per week to keep things rolling. Problem is it's hard to keep up with writing immersive articles with that breakneck pace.

You'll also get many different philosophies and rules on signing players, bonus structures, free agent signing rules and more. Every league is different regarding how they handle contract signings.

The purpose of an interim export is to allow the user to make some moves to perhaps replace an injured player or even to renegotiate a contract. Most times, you'll want to sign a new player during a midweek export so you'll have that player on your roster in time for the gameday export, allowing you to insert the newcomer into your depth charts. If you wait until the gameday export to make a signing, you're 'assuming' you'll get his signature on the dotted line and have to dress one less player (45 versus the maximum 46 active players) in order to make room should he sign with you. If you don't do this, you will have 47 active players and the AI will step in and redo your depth charts and gameplan, which you don't want to have happen!

The custom cities and info won't hurt your SP universe as long as you utilize a batch file to load up your MP league and all of its files. There are instructions about batch files on the forums...just do a search and you'll find it.

Other than that, ask away. MP leagues are tremendous fun but there is a time commitment there and you owe it to the other league owners to be as active as possible, especially during the drafts.
